Creating new systems Large organisations either appoint a team of experts to create their new system from people working in the company or they buy in experts. Name three benefits and three limitations of using people from within the organisation as opposed to those external to it
The Use and Organisation of ICT teams Projects sub-divided Sub-tasks allocated to teams Small (4-6 people) teams making up a full project team  less people to manage Each team one specialism Mixture of experience Each team one functional area leads to sense of achievement Own team leader  reporting to project manager
Organisation and Use Each team own plan  with own set of tasks Teams can work in parallel  reduces deadline time
The characteristics of an ICT Team Effective leadership Understanding, ability to hold team together / control team Appropriate allocation of tasks Play to strengths of team member, viewing ‘whole’ Adherence to agreed standards Using agreed design methodology or procedures To ensure that the resultant design is fully understandable and maintainable Monitoring of progress Work to budget constraints
The characteristics of an ICT Team Control (over change) Progress against the plan Keeping to deadline dates Balance of team Business / system / operational / technical Good internal communication skills Motivating the team / keeping up morale Good external communication skills Keeping the management / users informed of team progress
Formal Methods Systems Development Life Cycle Different parts of the SDLC Structured methods dsdm, ssadm, spiral Prototyping To show the users quickly what the system will look like Clear timescales Milestones are set / agreed Project will finish on time
Formal Methods Agreed deliverables System documentation, tested programs etc So the user knows what they are getting Approval to proceed When users sign off / at end of stage Project / stage review meetings With system commissioners / to get sign off Team / progress meetings Internal – against project plan at task level
