This white paper discusses a study of a dozen companies that deployed Linux workloads across IBM Power Systems and IBM System z servers. The study found that consolidation and virtualization reduced annual IT costs by $17,700 per 100 users. Server utilization increased from 36% to 79% and availability improved from 99.2% to 99.9%. Total annual benefits were close to $30,000 per 100 users, generating a 500% ROI over 3 years with a payback period of 6.3 months.
