SPEAKERS BIODATA

Peter R. Vogt, a Swiss National, has been the Managing Director of Nestlé (Malaysia)
Berhad and Regional Head of Nestlé Malaysia/Singapore since 16 September 2009.
A graduate of Switzerland’s University St. Gallen, Mr. Vogt has over 25 years of
management experience with Nestlé; the bulk of which was in Asia including Japan,
Hong Kong, Malaysia, Sri Lanka and Indonesia. During his last posting to Malaysia,
he was Head of the Sales and Marketing Division of Nestlé Malaysia, a position he
held from 1990 to 1994. From 1996 to 2005, Mr. Vogt was heading various Nestlé
operations in Europe including Switzerland, Scandinavia and Germany before
returning to Asia as CEO of Nestlé Indonesia from 2005 to 2009. Mr. Vogt is married
with two children. He is a committee member of the Malaysian International Chamber
of Commerce and Industry and a member of the Swiss-Malaysian Business
Association.

Ayman Hamed, Marketing Director, Al Islami Foods. With over 20 years of
experience, Ayman has become a Middle East marketing specialist. He holds an MPA
focusing on organisation behavior, as well as Political and Marketing degrees from the
USA. He has worked on both sides of the fence; International networked agencies
such as Leo Burnett and CB’a branding Solutions (Branding arm of Ogilvy & Mather),
as well as Global FMCG companies such as Unilever, and Fonterra. He is invited
regularly to speak on various marketing related subjects in public seminars. Ayman is
currently working as the Marketing Director of Al-Islami Foods in Dubai. Al Islami is the
regional leader in Halal foods.

Noel Shield is the Chief Executive Officer of Ghanim International Food Corporation
Sdn Bhd and Brunei Wafirah Holdings Sdn Bhd which are the Trading and Brand
Development and Marketing companies responsible for the Brunei Halal Brand, an
initiative of the Government of Brunei Darussalam. Prior to his appointment in Brunei
his sixteen year career in Asia has been predominately in Retailing, Procurement,
Project Management and Logistics in Hong Kong, Thailand and China with large
corporations such as Dairy Farm International, A.S. Watson Group, Central Retail of
Thailand and Kerry Logistics. He is regarded as one of the leading authorities on the
fresh produce industry in Asia and has been a keynote speaker at many global
industry conferences. He has over thirty years experience in the fresh food industry
after having commenced his working career in retail banking in Australia.
David Smith is Chief Executive of Global Futures and Foresight (GFF) - a strategic
futures research organization. David’s 30-year diverse business career has made him
recognisable as one of the world’s leading futurists. GFF has prepared views of the
future for the Middle East Travel and Tourism industry, the world Insurance markets
and visions of the future for the food, real estate, information technology, and
communications industries. Since founding GFF, David has worked with many of the
world’s largest organisations as well as academic institutions and industry
associations. Their insights have led many organizations to embrace change and
prepare innovative strategies to renew themselves and generate new growth. GFF
has developed proprietary methods to help their clients prepare themselves for the
future and by so doing reduce their risk and better enable them to adapt to our fast
changing world. His clients number some of the largest and most prestigious firms
around the world and he is a regular international conference speaker and writer and a
passionate believer that we are not victims of what the future might hold if we prepare
ourselves in advance.

Rushdi Siddiqui is the Global Head of Islamic Finance and OIC Countries at
Thomson Reuters (TR). In this role, Mr. Siddiqui works closely with Islamic finance
and banking professionals, including Shariah scholars, fund managers, treasury,
financial hubs, regulators, stock exchanges, central banks, Takafol (insurance)
entities, Halal industry, and intra-OIC (57 Muslim countries), to further strengthen
Thomson Reuters business. Recently, led the Islamic finance team at TR in the
successful global launch of the Islamic Finance (IF) Gateway, the world’s first platform
that addresses the work flow in IF across multiple asset classes. Mr. Siddiqui joined
Thomson Reuters from Dow Jones, where he was global director for their Islamic
Market Indices. Over his 10 years there, Mr. Siddiqui led the entry and expansion of
the Dow Jones Indexes into Islamic finance, resulting in numerous awards from
leading finance organizations and media outlets. Mr. Siddiqui has considerable
experience in the financial markets, having worked at a Wall Street investment bank
and commercial bank in the 1990s. Mr. Siddiqui holds a JD from Albany Law School of
Union University, an MBA in international business from Baruch College, and a
Bachelor of Science in Management and Marketing from New York University.
Shahed Amanullah is an award-winning journalist and editor-in-chief of
altmuslim.com, an online newsmagazine covering issues related to Islam in the West.
Named by Islamica Magazine as one of “Ten Young Muslim Visionaries” and
Georgetown University as one of the 500 most influential Muslims in the world, he
writes and speaks regularly about the challenges and opportunities facing Islam in the
West. His work and writings have been featured in major media outlets (Newsweek,
New York Times, Washington Post, BBC News, NPR, etc) and his television
appearances include CNN, Al Jazeera, ABC’s “Nightline”, and “Hannity & Colmes”.
Shahed is also the founder of Halalfire Media LLC (http://www.halalfire.com), a
network of Islamic-themed websites with over 7 million annual visitors. Along with
altmuslim.com, signature properties include zabihah.com, the worlds largest database
of Halal restaurants and markets, salatomatic.com, an extensive list of reviewed
mosques and schools in Muslim-minority countries, and halalapalooza.com, a
comprehensive guide to Islamic e-commerce.

Datu Tahir Sinsuat Lidasan Jr., recently-appointed by the President of the
Philippines to a rank in the Career Service, has been in-charge of developing and
promoting the Philippine Halal Industry since 2002. He has held many positions in the
government service and is currently a bureau director of the newly-created National
Commisson on Muslim Filipinos (NCMF). A member of a royal family in Maguindanao,
a province located in the Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao, Director Lidasan
has attended various Halal fora, trainings, and seminars in Malaysia, Indonesia and
the United States of America. He went to the University of the Philippines College of
Law and joined the government of President Arroyo during his senior year. He also
enrolled for a course in Masters in Business Administration at the Ateneo de Manila in
Rockwell, Makati City, Philippines. He also chair and supervise three Halal Global
Conferences in the Philippines participated by the different Halal stakeholders in the
government, corporate, diplomatic and private sector.
Razali Ramli is the manager of WAREES Halal, a division of WAREES Investments
Pte Ltd, the wholly-owned subsidiary of the Islamic Religious Council of Singapore
(Muis). Razali has more than 10 years of working experience in the international
services industry. Prior to his current appointment, Razali was with Muis as the Head
of Halal Certification (International). He was instrumental to the corporatisation of Muis
Halal Inspections (2009), ASEAN Working Group of Halal Food Guidelines (2009),
Singapore’s FTA Negotiations on Halal (2008), Muis’ HalMQ Implementation Plan
(2008), and, the inception of WAREES Halal (2006). Razali has spearheaded more
than 250 halal-certification projects that span across Singapore, Thailand, Taiwan,
China, Australia and Italy. He has led a team that managed the successful
implementation of Muis’ Halal training programmes with more than 500 participants.
He has presented more than 10 papers on Halal to international audiences, and,
recently chaired the Singapore International Halal Forum 2010 (SHIFT2010) that
attracted international participations from more than 8 countries.

Pitak Supanantakarn is a Director in the Central Islamic Committee of Thailand
CICOT. He works with the Halal Development and Product Testing Center of
Thailand, a newly set up organization representing a national-functional role under the
umbrella structure of CICOT. It is responsible for strengthening Thailand’s Halal
standard and development program to meet an internally recognized standard, and is
also aiming to help facilitate the export of Thailand’s Halal products to the global
market. The functional activities cover the Halal system set up, verifying the process,
training program, laboratory testing, technical assistance and advice on regulatory &
market requirements. He is also the Regional Director, for Intertek Testing Services.
He takes overall responsibility for their Food Service business development for Asia
Pacific Region (excluding Greater China, Hong Kong & Taiwan) and Australia. This
covers P&L, development of business strategy, operation, service capability &
capacity development, marketing, and technical support to ensure business objectives
are achieved and sustainable growth is attained.
Jon Hayes is the Managing Director of Norvic Food Processing, who operates the
Wodonga Abattoir in Victoria, Australia. The Wodonga abattoir is a dedicated export
beef, sheep, lamb, goat, and veal abattoir. The operations are 100% Halal, with
products being exported to countries such as USA, Canada, Mexico, Korea, Japan,
Middle East, South Africa, Malaysia, China, Taiwan, Indonesia and Singapore. Jon
has been in the Australian Meat Industry for 37 years, and has held several positions
from being a slaughterman, Government Meat Inspector AQIS, Government Official,
and abattoir General Manager. Jon is a member of the Australian Meat Industry
Council; a representative of the National Sheep, Lamb and Goat Council; a member of
the Australian Processor Council; and a representative of the Australian Government
AQIS Halal Consultative Committee. Jon Hayes has also been the representative from
the Australian Meat Industry Council to attend World Halal Forums in Australia,
Malaysia, and Europe over the past four years.

Amir Sakic is the CEO of the Agency for Halal Quality Certification, Bosnia and
Herzegovina. Back to 2006, when Halal Agency was established by Islamic
Community in Bosnia and Herzegovina, he has lead Halal processes in the region of
South-East Europe, and also actively participates in major Halal processes on the
regional and international arena. He has participated in process of development of the
OIC Halal Food Standard, and he is founding member of the European Association of
Halal Certifiers. During last three years he published several works on different type of
Halal products and continuously working as educator and trainer for Halal auditors,
both locally and internationally. His main interest in Halal field is establishment and
structure of Halal bodies and functionality of Halal System. Mr. Sakic has finished
Islamic studies, education in international standards and Master studies of
Management on University of Tuzla. He has experience in work with media, event
organizing, as well as work with Islamic Youth and NGO organizations. For ten years
he was engaged in educational process in secondary Islamic school.
Mohammad Nazir is currently serving as the chairman of European Halal
Development Agency based in the UK. European Halal Development Agency is
responsible for the creation of the European Halal Standard, which provides complete
supply chain Halal assurance. Since 2001 he has held a number of key advisory roles
both at regional and national governmental level and directorship positions in the
private sector specialising in the areas of enterprise and innovation, Islamic finance
and Halal business Development. Over the past 8 years he has been the Chairman of
West Midlands Minority Ethnic Business Forum, which has been responsible for
advising regional and national government on the most effective policy and strategy to
adopt in support of social and economic inclusion of all business communities. This
organisation has led pioneering research and development work in the field of Halal in
the UK.

Prior to his appointment in Brunei his sixteen year career in Asia has been predominately in Retailing, Procurement, Project Management and Logistics in Hong Kong, Thailand and China with large corporations such as Dairy Farm International, A.S. Watson Group, Central Retail of Thailand and Kerry Logistics. He is regarded as one of the leading authorities on the fresh produce industry in Asia and has been a keynote speaker at many global industry conferences. He has over thirty years experience in the fresh food industry after having commenced his working career in retail banking in Australia.

Recently, led the Islamic finance team at TR in the successful global launch of the Islamic Finance (IF) Gateway, the world’s first platform that addresses the work flow in IF across multiple asset classes. Mr. Siddiqui joined Thomson Reuters from Dow Jones, where he was global director for their Islamic Market Indices. Over his 10 years there, Mr. Siddiqui led the entry and expansion of the Dow Jones Indexes into Islamic finance, resulting in numerous awards from leading finance organizations and media outlets. Mr. Siddiqui has considerable experience in the financial markets, having worked at a Wall Street investment bank and commercial bank in the 1990s. Mr. Siddiqui holds a JD from Albany Law School of Union University, an MBA in international business from Baruch College, and a Bachelor of Science in Management and Marketing from New York University.

Datu Tahir Sinsuat Lidasan Jr., recently-appointed by the President of the Philippines to a rank in the Career Service, has been in-charge of developing and promoting the Philippine Halal Industry since 2002. He has held many positions in the government service and is currently a bureau director of the newly-created National Commisson on Muslim Filipinos (NCMF). A member of a royal family in Maguindanao, a province located in the Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao, Director Lidasan has attended various Halal fora, trainings, and seminars in Malaysia, Indonesia and the United States of America. He went to the University of the Philippines College of Law and joined the government of President Arroyo during his senior year. He also enrolled for a course in Masters in Business Administration at the Ateneo de Manila in Rockwell, Makati City, Philippines. He also chair and supervise three Halal Global Conferences in the Philippines participated by the different Halal stakeholders in the government, corporate, diplomatic and private sector.
  • 7. Razali Ramli is the manager of WAREES Halal, a division of WAREES Investments Pte Ltd, the wholly-owned subsidiary of the Islamic Religious Council of Singapore (Muis). Razali has more than 10 years of working experience in the international services industry. Prior to his current appointment, Razali was with Muis as the Head of Halal Certification (International). He was instrumental to the corporatisation of Muis Halal Inspections (2009), ASEAN Working Group of Halal Food Guidelines (2009), Singapore’s FTA Negotiations on Halal (2008), Muis’ HalMQ Implementation Plan (2008), and, the inception of WAREES Halal (2006). Razali has spearheaded more than 250 halal-certification projects that span across Singapore, Thailand, Taiwan, China, Australia and Italy. He has led a team that managed the successful implementation of Muis’ Halal training programmes with more than 500 participants. He has presented more than 10 papers on Halal to international audiences, and, recently chaired the Singapore International Halal Forum 2010 (SHIFT2010) that attracted international participations from more than 8 countries. Pitak Supanantakarn is a Director in the Central Islamic Committee of Thailand CICOT. He works with the Halal Development and Product Testing Center of Thailand, a newly set up organization representing a national-functional role under the umbrella structure of CICOT. It is responsible for strengthening Thailand’s Halal standard and development program to meet an internally recognized standard, and is also aiming to help facilitate the export of Thailand’s Halal products to the global market. The functional activities cover the Halal system set up, verifying the process, training program, laboratory testing, technical assistance and advice on regulatory & market requirements. He is also the Regional Director, for Intertek Testing Services. He takes overall responsibility for their Food Service business development for Asia Pacific Region (excluding Greater China, Hong Kong & Taiwan) and Australia. This covers P&L, development of business strategy, operation, service capability & capacity development, marketing, and technical support to ensure business objectives are achieved and sustainable growth is attained.
  • 8. Jon Hayes is the Managing Director of Norvic Food Processing, who operates the Wodonga Abattoir in Victoria, Australia. The Wodonga abattoir is a dedicated export beef, sheep, lamb, goat, and veal abattoir. The operations are 100% Halal, with products being exported to countries such as USA, Canada, Mexico, Korea, Japan, Middle East, South Africa, Malaysia, China, Taiwan, Indonesia and Singapore. Jon has been in the Australian Meat Industry for 37 years, and has held several positions from being a slaughterman, Government Meat Inspector AQIS, Government Official, and abattoir General Manager. Jon is a member of the Australian Meat Industry Council; a representative of the National Sheep, Lamb and Goat Council; a member of the Australian Processor Council; and a representative of the Australian Government AQIS Halal Consultative Committee. Jon Hayes has also been the representative from the Australian Meat Industry Council to attend World Halal Forums in Australia, Malaysia, and Europe over the past four years. Amir Sakic is the CEO of the Agency for Halal Quality Certification, Bosnia and Herzegovina. Back to 2006, when Halal Agency was established by Islamic Community in Bosnia and Herzegovina, he has lead Halal processes in the region of South-East Europe, and also actively participates in major Halal processes on the regional and international arena. He has participated in process of development of the OIC Halal Food Standard, and he is founding member of the European Association of Halal Certifiers. During last three years he published several works on different type of Halal products and continuously working as educator and trainer for Halal auditors, both locally and internationally. His main interest in Halal field is establishment and structure of Halal bodies and functionality of Halal System. Mr. Sakic has finished Islamic studies, education in international standards and Master studies of Management on University of Tuzla. He has experience in work with media, event organizing, as well as work with Islamic Youth and NGO organizations. For ten years he was engaged in educational process in secondary Islamic school.

European Halal Development Agency is responsible for the creation of the European Halal Standard, which provides complete supply chain Halal assurance. Since 2001 he has held a number of key advisory roles both at regional and national governmental level and directorship positions in the private sector specialising in the areas of enterprise and innovation, Islamic finance and Halal business Development. Over the past 8 years he has been the Chairman of West Midlands Minority Ethnic Business Forum, which has been responsible for advising regional and national government on the most effective policy and strategy to adopt in support of social and economic inclusion of all business communities. This organisation has led pioneering research and development work in the field of Halal in the UK.
