- 22. Rotameter A rotameter is a vertically installed tube that increases in diameter with increasing height. The meter must be installed vertically so that gravity effects are easily incorporated into the governing equations. Fluid flows in through the bottom of the tube and out through the top. Inside the glass tube there is a float that changes position with the flow rate. When there is no liquid flow, the float rests in the bottom of the meter.
