- 1. Image Analysis 1 This untitled photograph came from Albrecht Tubke’s Personae “Made In Italy” shoot, which was completed in 2009. The subject makes the whole photograph, which is shot as a vertical digital portrait. Tubke tries to capture the person’s personality through their clothes, stance and facial expression. The photograph has been edited; you can see that it has been de-saturated of some of its colour but the colours of the subject’s clothes still stand out and grab your attention, especially the dark dress that contradicts with the clean light background. When looking at this photograph you notice the subject straight away as you are drawn to the dark/light comparison. The composition of the image is evenly set out due to the way Tubke has framed his subject in the middle with no extra space around making it look symmetrical. He has captured the floor in the photo that has created a line from the ankles down; the floor is grey and the light grey wall creates a nice analogous colour flow. Tubke has shot in daylight Tuscany so he didn’t need to use any compositional devices; he uses a quick shutter speed to get a nice sharp image, on that note he also uses a small depth of field to bring out the unique subject amongst the plain background. This photograph out of the many finals Tubke chose for his Personae project stood out to me the most because of its uniqueness. The photograph captures whatever the person is; this women is standing tall, fashionably dressed with a subtle grin on her face which shows a lot about her and a lot about the people Tubke stops to take their photo. The colours in this photograph in particular I think brings the photograph to life and catches your eye because of the colour contradiction between the women’s outfit and the background. Tubke uses the same/similar rules for every photo he does; such as framing, backdrops and desaturation which links his work together.
