The document analyzes a portrait photograph from Albrecht Tubke's "Personae" series. - 1. Image Analysis 2 I have chosen to analyse another untitled photograph from Albrecht Tubke’s Personae “Made In Italy” shoot. The photograph has the same characteristics as the others in the shoot, which is a vertical digital portrait, and that Tubke tries to capture the person’s personality through their stance, clothes and facial expression. Unlike the other photograph (Image Analysis 1) the background is dark and the subjects clothes are bright; this creates a nice balance but at the same time it contradicts itself what makes it stand out. The photographs light/dark contradiction catches the eye along with the evenly set out composition of the photograph, there is no empty space making is look symmetrical. The different pieces of clothing the subject is wearing, along with the background and floor creates a lot of shapes and lines which gives the photograph more energy and makes it stand out. Like the other photographs, Tubke has shot in bright daylight so he didn’t need any compositional devises; only a quick shutter speed and a small depth of field was needed to get a sharp high quality image. This isn’t my favourite photograph from Albrecht Tubke’s Personae project but it is my favourite photograph out of all the men he shot. Tubke simply asks them to pose in a way that represents them and this man has chosen to stand tall with his hands on his hips; along with that he is looking directly as the camera with mirrored glasses on, smoking a cigar in his flamboyant clothes. Compare this to the women in image analysis 1 and there is a difference, this man seems more eccentric compared to the women; his glasses shows his eyes which makes him quite mysterious. I think that the consistent editing style that Tubke puts in place for every photograph is what links every photograph he produces together whether is landscape, still life or portrait.
