Students can learn independently with minimum teacher involvement by being given tasks of varying direction, from highly directed to non-directed. To do so, students must learn how to find their own resources, discover information, and correct any deficiencies in their learning by monitoring their own progress. Effective independent learning tasks include watching videos, reading books, taking notes, preparing presentations, and solving problems, while making use of various resources like books, videos, websites and databases. Students can document and present their independent learning using paper, presentations, websites, blogs or other media. Independent learning cultivates student-centered, motivated, responsible learners who can learn in any place or time in a deep, self-directed manner.
