This seminar discusses interferometric modulator display (IMOD) technology. IMOD uses micro-electromechanical systems to produce colors through interference of light with very low power consumption, providing an always-on experience. An IMOD is a thin mirror fabricated on a transparent substrate, leaving an air gap that interferes ambient light to produce colors. IMOD has two states, open and collapsed, to generate color. It has advantages over LCD like lower power consumption, faster switching speed, better readability and contrast in all lighting conditions. Potential applications include MP3 players, games, cameras, TVs and more. IMOD technology is poised to replace existing displays with its always-on and high visibility features combined with extended battery
