The narrator reflects on their experiences of being a masked vigilante, questioning their motivations and self-identity separate from being a superhero. After a violent confrontation with a group led by Skip, the narrator realizes the dangers of intervening in criminal activities. Despite feeling defeated, the narrator is committed to fighting against injustice, driven by past experiences of witnessing bullying.

- 2. I had just come back out of the dining hall. I had just eaten dinner with Frank, Keith and Frederick. I was wondering how Super Ball and Iro L7 had managed to save me without any clue aside from seeing John and Abby being chased by thugs. Sure that was a reasonable story and sure, that all makes sense but aside from that, I just did not completely understand it. - 3. Did I just hear something behind me? It sounded like a rustling and then an owl hoot. I stopped to listen for any other sounds but there were none that I heard so I kept on walking.

- 5. It reminded me of why I was becoming a masked vigilante. I say masked vigilante because I still didn’t consider myself to be a super hero. Super hero implies that a good person is making the world a better place. I was just a jerk who felt bad about being a jerk and needed a way to make himself a better man. This was why I would not call myself a super hero. I was not super. And I was not trying to be able to call myself a hero; I just wanted to be able to call myself a man.

- 7. That Was Weird. Whatever happened to Marque’s cousin, Matt Calvin? That guy got picked on in middle school, high school, even elementary school when we were a lot more innocent. That was another reason why I set out to fight crime. Because it was unfair that guys like Matt Calvin were constantly being abused. I had to do it. If you are a goat then you’d have to be fed to my wolves. I have got to lay down the law. Got to make sure my sheep are doing fine.

- 9. After I locked eye contact with skip, he snapped his fingers and all five of them jumped me. Normally, I would be telling a story on how I fought back and how I beat up everyone who attacked me. But this time it was different. I will be telling a different story as how I did not have my Impactor costume on and even if I did, they still jumped me from out of nowhere and it was too many antagonists. I curled up into a little ball while they beat the tar out of me. As they beat the tar out of me I kept curled up into a little ball until I heard … Beat Down Scene Do you see why getting involved in our business is bad? Do you see why being a vigilante is bad for your health?
- 10. The beatings eventually stopped. Until you stop getting involved in our affairs, we will take you down every day. You will have all of tomorrow to not do anything and after tomorrow, we will decide whether or not you have learned that trying to stop our business is bad for your health. Hey! you, get away from him! They all walked away as I kept spitting my blood out onto the street. I think that crazy guy’s name was Dan.
