This paper provides a conceptual framework for implementing an ISO 9001 quality management system (QMS) in small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), highlighting initial states of QMS implementation and pathways for transition to a fully functional system. The authors discuss common challenges SMEs face, such as limited resources and knowledge, and emphasize the importance of integrating QMS into the core organizational structure to enhance customer satisfaction and continuous improvement. Ultimately, the paper aims to guide SME managers in effectively navigating the implementation process of ISO 9001, avoiding the pitfalls of creating a paper-driven system.
