This document summarizes a study on the effect of implementing an ISO 9001:2008 quality management system (QMS) at a research and development establishment in India. The study assessed the impact of the QMS on key performance indicators like project performance, instrument management, human resources development, user communication, and management performance. The results showed that implementing the ISO 9001:2008 standard contributed significantly to enhancing the effectiveness of the organization as an R&D institution. This suggests that ISO 9001's generic quality management principles can be adapted successfully in non-manufacturing environments like research and development.
