• And from UK Quality Assurance Agency:
…professional doctorates normally lead to professional and/or
organisational change
i.e. one key aim of the EdD is making a change to practice
EdDs will almost always have a section:
Implications for practice
• The ‘so what’ of your research
• What difference will your work make to practice?
• Your practice, your department, your institution and maybe wider
• And how will it happen?
Here’s how NOT to do it…
Recommendations (paraphrased)
• Raise societal awareness of the importance of …..
• Management should….
• Increase salaries and incentives
• Provide compulsory training courses …
• These are simplified, but real!
Don’t say what someone else should do e.g. spend money
Don’t make suggestions that may be admirable, but
beyond your capacity to enact or influence
Study abroad
By a study abroad coordinator
• Provide opportunities for study abroad participants to
identify realistic, achievable goals prior to departure
• Help participants identify places and activities where they
can interact socially with domestic students
• Provide training in cross-cultural interaction skills
