Although I was pleased with my original magazine, I felt there was cause for editing the front page
and the contents page, because it didn’t meet the same quality as my double page spread. So I have
altered the two pages in order to create a better final project. Rather than just edit the picture via a
simple publication, I used Photoshop to get a quality photograph for my central photograph. I also
changed the layout and pictures of my contexts page as I felt it looked amateur and simplistic.
I wanted to change my magazine covers central image from the black and white to make it less heavy, and I also felt
the red lips cheapened image, making it vulgar. I picked a different image of my model and edited the picture in
Photoshop. The new image is more in sync with the audience of my demographic, the model looks more natural
than the heavily contrasted black and white image, and she is more centralised. The theme I was going for was a
1970’s appeal that the rest of my magazine conforms with. The kind of editing I wanted to achieve is that which
would appear on site ‘Instragram’ was is typically used by the Indie Demographic because they can independently
share their quirky photography which they tend to edit in a particular style. I’m pleased with the outcome of the
picture, the way I manipulated colour, contrast, colour-curve, and exposure of the image means the outcome looks
vintage (Appealing to my 1970s theme), yet has the modern advantage of a crisper image due to digital
advancements in photograph editing software.
I edited the exposure, Offset and Gamma correction. The exposure gave a harsh yellow light to the entire photograph, giving the
artificial lighting appeal of the 1970’s theme I was going for. The image was already edited simply as ‘Sepia’, so this meant editing
the overall image was enhancing the already sepia image. What I like about the image is how through Photoshop ‘s Offset, I could
focus on specific parts of the image, which is how I achieved the models rosy lips, also a component of 70’s style.
I edited font colours to conform with my
1970’s vintage theme. I made the colours
more pastel, which was more common in the
                  70’s era.

I also removed the borders of the other
images, because I thought they looked
                     unprofessional and amateur.

I also changed the font of my caption, to
make it bolder and stand out against the
other text which is all the same font. I
also made it horizontal rather than
vertical so it didn’t obscure and
                      monopolise the main image.

Because of the new editing of my main
picture, and the new colour format, I
made my magazine an ‘Autumn’ issue,
because of the rich reds and oranges
                conforming with idealistic colours of
                autumn.

What I liked about my mock up was the simple colour
scheme, I only used one colour for the font. I have recreated
this to make my magazine more organized, the only exception
is the main cover line quotation, which I had to use an
alternate colour to allow the quote to be visible, as it faded
into the colours of the central picture.
I changed the font of the
features, to match the font on the
front cover, to make my magazine
consistent. I also did this with the
‘Note from the editor’ heading to
make the font smaller, which
allowed for me to have bigger
images.

I changed the images to be
  vertical rather than vertically
obscured to fill the page in a
better way, and also to allow
better viewing of the images. I
kept the picture of ‘Ariella’ the
biggest because she is the cover
story, but the two feature artists
are still large enough to be shown
  clearly.
