Kyon Ye Blackmailing ??? Our story of Motivational Change SGVP International School, Chharodi, Ahmedabad, Gujarat. Kishan, Nikhil, Anuj, Jay, Arshil Mentor Teacher : Mrs. Preeti Pujara
Step 1: FEEL Germinating an idea. Change is the perception of life. Life always asks for a change as a monotonous life makes boredom. SGVPians believe in bringing change with new ideas and innovations There are many problems that we face in day to day life and some times are unable to find solution to such problems even after reaching the core of it. Teachers and students pondered over the problems ailing the society. A team was formed by SGVP to sort such few problems of society and the startling problems found were hoarding and blackmailing.
Step 2: IMAGINE A Journey Within We decided to expose the different layers of these two evils in the society. The best place is to be with young kids and make them aware of the problems. We displayed the undercurrent of these problems through the street plays, banners and counselling on the different segments of the society. Blackmailing and hoarding lurk within: To overcome these problems one needs to undertake inner-journey. People need to be touched to recognize these problems.
Journey Outside The ideas were shared and executed through “Design for change” contest. To spread the message we went to ten schools and three public places. The journey for change started with 25 students and 5 teachers who were on the march to bring awareness on these problems. We counselled young minds and even elder ones through our presentations.
Blackmailing & Hoarding Title Discussion Blackmail includes excessive unwarranted demands, punishments for normal behaviour, unwanted displays of attachment (Love) and withholding affection or care. Most often the real victims of these problem are children. Compulsive hoarding (or disposophobia) is the excessive acquisition of possessions, even if the items are worthless, hazardous, or unsanitary. A person who engages in compulsive hoarding is commonly said to be a “Pack Rat”.
Why did we select the topic ? As parents and teachers we could feel that there are many upcoming problems (especially emotional blackmailing and compulsive hoarding) that trouble everyone and they really need to be changed. An introspection inspired us imagine that surely these problems should be uprooted from the society through different media and the team planned to bring awareness and implement some selected ideas. What inspired us to choose this topic ? The root of the topic laid down in common observation of day-to-day life where people (especially children) demand more and more even if they have enough stuff just to show off or to have better than others. Fulfilling their obsessive demands blindly, sometimes they compel their parents to cross their financial limits.
Step 3: DO Have we really changed ? The whole experience was transforming and focused one. We reached out to 5,000 people to spread the message of the theme. The message was imparted through the street play by 25 students, escorted by 5 teachers. We organized rallies, campaigns, workshops and face to face interactions to raise the awareness.
A Change ahead… Oath taking. After watching the eye-opening play, the children really felt that it is worthless to demand more and more. Their parents also realised that we should be bold enough not to be emotionally blackmailed unnecessarily. Then it was followed by an oath taking ceremony. Parents and children confessed that we should not fall prey to slavery of yearning or craving.
Concluding message… Through the play and various activities, we passed on the message – “ BE SIMPLE AND BE WHAT YOU ARE ”.
Our sincere thanks goes to… Principal Mr. Caesar D’silva who has remained a constant source of inspiration as well as a guiding force.
