The students saw elderly guardians signing documents with thumbprints instead of signatures and felt sorry that some elders could not read or write. They took an oath to teach literacy to the elders as the guardians had done much for the students. The students created posters and slogans, held rallies, visited homes to collect data and teach literacy. They had faith they could bring positive change and were united in their goal. They taught over 50 elders to sign their names, bringing tears of joy. The students are committed to continuing their movement until all villagers are literate.
