Purpose and Scope
Information Management (IM) is the identification,
optimisation, custodianship and connection of information and
information-intensive processes to innovate, achieve
competitive advantages and generate business and customer
value.
Information Technology (IT) is the use of any computer,
storage, networking and other physical devices, infrastructure,
processes and services to create, process, store, secure and
exchange all forms of electronic information. IT is pivotal in
creating more value out of the information.
The purpose of the Manage Information, Data and System
(MIDS) process is to enable the Asset Leadership Team, Site
Process Owners (SPO), Site Process Focal Points (SPFPs) and
Work Process Practitioners to manage information, systems and
data effectively.
IT and information management should enable the Assets to
embark successfully on the digitalization journey which is
about capturing quality data, turning data into insight and
insight into action to improve the bottom-line value as well as
the adoption of new technologies such as mobile devices,
wearables, robotics and drones for automation.
The integrated management of information, data and systems
across the Asset’s management activities, improves bottom-line
value by ensuring the Asset has reliable and secure IT systems
and enabling improvement through:
i. organisational and strategic planning for complete and accurate
Asset information
ii. efficient business processes using accurate, complete and trusted
information saving time and rework
iii. providing better and new insights into the operational and
maintenance requirements of the Asset and supporting the
improvement of process safety, Asset integrity and reliability by
applying analytics and advanced analytics
iv. ensuring better decisions are made regarding operational and
maintenance expenditure based on actual Asset performance and
status through improved management information from fit-for-
purpose data platforms, e.g., data warehouse, data lakes etc.
v. improving information quality as a result of automation enabling
an increased amount of verification.
The scope for MIDS is:
• managing information and systems across the AMS
• establishing information principles like data value
owners and data quality • supporting unlocking
value from data through data warehouse and data
analytics
• ensuring compliance
The process has not deployed in NLNG under AMS
- IMT and TI are positioned to help the business
deliver the process, but components is in practice.
