- 3. DISSERTATION It is a formal and lengthy written discourse required by the Universities in partial fulfillment of requirements for a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD).
- 5. EthOS Ethos.bl.uk Working to build a centralized store to digitized theses from UK higher education institutions. Users can register free of charge and download increasing numbers of full-text PhD dissertations covering all subject areas. Abstracts are available for other items which can then be digitized on demand. This is a free- based service and users should refer to their local interlibrary loans department for advice before use. Note that at the present time the site does not maintain a comprehensive historical listing of all UK PhDs. Also, some universities are not participating in the project. - 9. Index to Theses (subscription required) www.theses.com Catalogue of all theses accepted for higher degrees by higher education institutions in Great Britain and Ireland from 1715 onwards. Includes abstracts and links to items available in full text on EthOS and a number of UK University websites.
- 10. Australasian Digital Theses adt.caul.edu.au Free access to thousands of titles from Australian and New Zealand universities. Mainly 1990s onwards. Covers all subject areas.
- 12. DART-Europe E-theses Portal (DEEP) www.dart-europe.eu This service (which is currently under development) allows you to search for the full texts of research theses from a growing number of European countries. Note that it does not include all European universities.
- 14. Database of African Theses and Dissertations (DATAD OnLine) www.aau.org/data Project of the Association of African Universities which aims to increase the visibility of African research. Searchable catalogue of abstracts of masters and doctoral theses from a number of African colleges.
- 16. Networked Digital Library of Theses and Dissertation www.ndltd.org Excellent starting point for tracing the existence of online theses. Maintains a searchable catalogue of e-theses and a directory of links to key websites.
- 18. Proquest Dissertations and Theses (subscription required) www.proquest.co.uk Access the full text of thousands of doctoral theses submitted from 1997 onwards. Coverage mainly from North America institutions. Either titles (from 1861 onwards) and some Masters theses have abstracts. The site provides free access to some full text titles at pqdtopen.proquest.com.
- 24. Theses Canada Portal www.collectionscanada.ca/thesescanada/index-e.html Free access to a database of the full text of thousands of Canadian theses and dissertations. Bibliographic records for older items submitted since the 1960s.

Philippine eLib www.elib.gov.ph A collaborative project of the National Library of the Philippines (NLP), University of the Philippines (UP), Department of Science and Technology (DOST), Department of Agriculture (DA), and the Commission on Higher Education (CHED). Available resources include: oUnion catalog of the five partners; oDigitized Filipiniana materials including theses and dissertations; oSpecial collection/researches of the five partners; and, oOnline resources/subscription to electronic databases.
