Inquiry Project #2 Kirk Smoot EDUC 373 10/17/09
Experience In my first inquiry project I decided to try and make my very own guitar pedal. However, in my attempt the pedal did not work So for the second time around I am going to research to see the proper components that are used in making a guitar pedal.
Questions What components did I not find? Did I put the components in the right place? Did I find a proper schematic?
Indicator Connection 4.2.3 Make simple and safe electrical connections with various plugs, sockets, and terminals.
Research Step 1 My first step was finding a new schematic, because I found out that the first schematic I found was only for a buffer.
Research Step 2 Materials: 1- 200 400mW Coupling Transformer 2- 1k, 1- 180K, 1-820K, 1- 680K, 1- 22K, 1- 220K, 1- 220, 1-47K, 1- 470 resistors 1- 500K/LOG Volume/output 1- 3u3+, 1- o.1uF, 1- 150pF, 1- .001uF, 1- 25uF+, 1- 220uF+, 1- 33uF+ transistors 2- 1N34A diode 22guage wire Soldering Iron Circuit board
Research Step 3 After looking at the materials that are needed, I predict that this schematic as well as materials will lead to a functional guitar pedal. There are a great deal more materials I need to make this guitar pedal which I feel is a correction to my mistake of finding a wrong schematic
Research Step 4 In finding the schematic I decided to make my search more concise by searching for a specific kind of guitar effects pedal. I chose to find a Distortion Pedal, which I feel is a bit more common to find. The method of creating the pedal should be the same. Where you take the circuit board, and solder the components to the board in the way that it shows on the schematic.
Research Step 5 For this project I was not able to try out the items that I found, but I do hope that I will get a chance to soon. Since I could not work this out for real this time, I took the opportunity to try and research some of my mistakes from the last project. In a sense I was using the Scientific Method, in furthering my understanding of this concept.
