Custom recovery allows installing software like custom ROMs through flashable zip files. It provides backup/restore, partitioning, and wiping functions. To install custom recovery, you need a rooted Android device, Rom Manager app, and a supported recovery file. You download Rom Manager, select the recovery in the app, confirm the installation, then reboot to access the custom recovery.
