Instructor Training Assessments
Marie Nolen – Implementation Project
Inspiration for Implementation Project
 My action research project asks the question, “Will mandatory
training in education for teachers in for-profit, vocational schools
have a positive impact on the success of these schools?”
 Please note that, currently, vocational school teachers are not required to have
any formal education or training in education in order to teach.
 A question developed from my research – Should I conduct my
research at the school level AND the government level or focus on
one at a time? I chose to focus on gathering data at the school
level first. I believe my initial research will be valuable should it
lead me to conduct further research (i.e. at the government level)
at a future date.
Inspiration (continued)
 I recently worked on a Current and Desired Reality project in which
I was able to explore data gathered at the school level and create
my desired reality. The project involved:
 Designing the Desired Reality
 Identifying Impinging conditions to the desired reality
 Identifying stakeholders and the ‘players’
 Creating a strategy to make my desire a reality
 Presenting my strategy to my professor and classmates for comments,
clarifying questions, and other feedback
Inspiration (continued)
 One part of my strategy involved presenting my suggestions for
coursework that should be covered in the proposed instructor
training. This coursework includes:
 Classroom management
 Curriculum design
 Differentiated instruction
 Student assessment and evaluation
 Student engagement
 Teaching students to think critically
 Classroom observation w/reflection (this piece is based on the
suggestion of a classmate)
Exploring Wormeli’s work on Assessment
 The work covered by Wormeli that is highlighted
for me as an educator and allows me to explore
my Desired Reality project even further is his
discussion on Assessments.
 I designed two self-assessments for teachers who
will attend the proposed training – 1) An initial
assessment after the training is completed, and 2)
A periodic/follow-up assessment.

Goal for Self-Assessments
 Initial assessment:
 Evaluate value of training to work
in classroom.
 Highlight the most useful
information learned and how it
will be implemented.
 Plan for collaboration with
colleagues on best practices.
 Reflect on classroom observation
portion of training and training as
a whole.
 Follow-up assessment:
 To determine what has worked and
what has not worked and make
changes accordingly.
 To share and collaborate with
colleagues on best practices.
 Useful for future curriculum planning.
 Tracking personal and professional
growth.
 Provide administration with important
information about your success in the
classroom.
