Intergative Teaching
Objectives
At the end of the session, we will :
❑define integrative learning and teaching.
❑Determine the types of integrative learning
and teaching.
“An integrated approach allows learners to explore, gather,
process, refine and present information about topics they
want to investigate without the constraints imposed by
traditional subject barriers” .- Pigdon and Wooley
Integrative teaching
Integrated teaching method involves “strategies that influence
students directly, indirectly or by combination of these. Thus
the teacher may deliver instruction by telling, showing and
providing access to the information to be learned”.- Moore)
1. Intradisciplinary (within subject areas)
Integrative teaching and learning
• Knowledge and skills are connected within
one subject area.
• The distinctive nature of learning is
recognized in each subject area
INTEGRATIVE TEACHING.powerpoint-presentation
2. Interdisciplinary (between subject
areas)
Integrative teaching and learning
• Topics, themes, issues or big ideas bring
together outcomes from more than one
subject area.
• Knowledge and skills are learned through
individual subject areas but at times connect
to cross-curricular topics, themes, issues or
big ideas
INTEGRATIVE TEACHING.powerpoint-presentation
3. Transdisciplinary (beyond subject
areas)
Integrative teaching and learning
• This means connecting lifeless subject matter
to life itself.
INTEGRATIVE TEACHING.powerpoint-presentation
How can teachers connect subject matter to
life?
1. Depart from teaching content for test purposes
only.
2. Reach the application phase of lesson
development.

life?
COMMON INTEGRATIVE ACTIVITIES
• Gamification
• Peer teaching
• Incorporate technology
• Demonstration
• Self-examination and self-reflection
• Thematic
Teaching
MODES OF INTEGRATIVE TEACHING
STRATEGIES
It requires selecting a unit topic and giving
everyone in the group the opportunity to
contribute to the integration process
• Content-based Instruction
MODES OF INTEGRATIVE TEACHING
STRATEGIES
This integrated approach bridges the gap between
language and topic matter courses and focuses on
learner’s academic needs and interests. It
emphasizes the value of practical and real world
skills.
• Focusing inquiry
MODES OF INTEGRATIVE TEACHING
STRATEGIES
In this method, the teacher asks students open-
ended questions to get them thinking and to direct
them to questions that are interesting to them, can
be answered, are objective or are not personal..
PRINCIPLE OF INTEGRATED
LEARNING.
•Integrated learning helps the children to expand
the knowledge . Then build and extend their
previous knowledge and experiences.
•Open ended learning style.
•Helps to develop problem solving ability.
•Collaboration
An Integrated study is in which children broadly explores knowledge in various
subjects related to certain aspects of their environment.
By Humphreys post and Ellis 1981
Integrated Refers to education that is organized in such a way that it cuts across
the subject matter lines, bringing together various aspects of the curriculum into
meaningful association to focus upon broad areas of study. It views learning and
teaching in a holistic way and reflects the real world. Which is interactive.
