- 4. Our Audience • Our task has been to aim our idea at people with disabilities • This meant we had to design our idea to fulfil a diverse user requirement set as well as enhance the visit of those who may not be able to fully experience what the cathedral has to offer
- 5. Our target Audience Disabled People For our target audience we have to consider a lot of variable in the extent of there disability, so I looked at the best devices to suit these needs. Apple products seem to have the most disabled access so an I pad would probably be the most suitable device. The cathedral could purchase a few of these so that for special trips to the university they could be leant out for there visit but this could also be used by anyone with an IPhone as well as I would run of the same technology. iPhone, iPad, iPod; • Include screen magnification and Voice Over • a screen-access technology, for the blind and visually impaired. • To assist those with learning disabilities, an alternative, simplified user interface is available that rewards exploration and learning.
- 6. Current Cathedral Disability Measures • They have put in a Wheelchair lift so that the users can access another part. But only a certain wheelchair can use the lift. People with physical disabilities cannot access is the crypt. • In one area of the cathedral they have made some copy’s of effigy to allow people who many have sight difficulties to touch the tome and have an understanding of what they look like though touch. • They also have audio guides available for people with reading difficulties but the down side t this is that they might miss some other important information from the tour guide.

Our Idea: Cathedral Pocket Guide • As there are certain limitations with tampering of the cathedral and it’s architecture we decided to go with a mobile application • Our idea is a mobile application designed to guide the user around the cathedral and its exhibits • We want to make it simple for visitors to access the information they desire at any time during their visit

Summary of Intended Features • Both Visual and Audio functions throughout • Provide the user with a variety of category options on different aspects of Winchester Cathedral in order to make it easy to access the information they desire • Serve as a guide to the exhibits and their locations • Provide information on architecture and exhibits in a form that suits the needs of Visual, Audio and Kinesthetic learners
- 9. Auditory Learning • Auditory learning is a learning style in which a person learns through listening. An auditory learner depends on hearing and speaking as a main way of learning. • Audio will be an important feature and function of our application in order to be of use to users with visual disabilities.

Speech Recognition • Speech recognition will allow users to simply talk and give certain commands in order to access specified categories and features • Thus the user can navigate the application without any visual requirement • With the use of headsets and earphone/microphones, wired or wireless, no physical action or movement is required

Audio Playback • To support auditory learners, audio will be used to immediately introduce the applications and how to use its intended features, to make the learning curve simple • Direct responses and suggestions will be made to voice commands to guide the user to their desired location • Like an audio tour guide, interesting descriptions and facts will be given on the architecture and exhibits in the building

Kinesthetic Learning • Kinesthetic learning is a learning style in which learning takes place by the student actually carrying out a physical activity • Part of this is accomplished simply through the user having to interact with the device, whether through touch or audio • However we want to do more than this which is why we’ve decided to incorporate Augmented Reality
- 14. Augmented Reality Augment reality could be a great for our Audience it could be used to show disabled people the places that they wouldn't normally be able to access or to keep mentally disabled people interested on the cathedral in a way that they can understand for there mental age.
- 15. Project Plan • Week 1 - Work on the visual aspects of the device and developing the augmented reality and gathering information and data from the cathedral. • Week 2 - Develop the interface design so we have a final idea of what we want it to look like. Decide how we are going to make the interface an create the interface main component so that it works without error. • Week 3 – Finish off interface workings, make sure the augment reality fit the devices intended audience and capability, add content to the device.
- 16. Easy to alter and inexpensive to Maintain Because the device is something that owned by many people already there would be no need to worry about price to maintain that. Also the application will have no need to be changed due to the subject. The cathedral history and stories aren't going to change so the data will not need to change.

Filter Content • Search and category filters will allow users to rule out aspects of the Cathedral that don’t interest them in order to highlight the aspects that do • Suggested content will also be provided, which will be appropriate to the users interests (set in filters) • This will make the application more personalised and streamlined to meet the users specific demand in order to enhance their experience

Updating the Application • We intend for the application to be placed in suitable application download locations; that will allow for us to update the software appropriately to cathedral updates • This also makes it easy for the user who will be automatically notified on updates to their application
