Technology Integration in Elementary School Classrooms Brett Reis

What is Technology Integration? Integration is the use of technology by teachers in the classroom to introduce, reinforce, enrich and assess students in curriculum objectives. (Stratford B.O.E.)
It is not one, but many tools.
Technology can be used in all content areas.
Why Integrate Technology? In the information age, there is an intrinsic need to learn technology. (Dockstader, 1999)
Students are motivated by the use of technology.
Importance of Tech.Lit. Technology will be the main means of communication for students.
Twenty First Century Learners need a different set of skills then previous generations. (Anderson )
Why Integrate? Teaching to greater number of learning styles (Differentiated Instruction)has a greater chance of each student being successful.  (Pitler, 2007)
Technology makes this task easier.
Differentiated Instruction Various forms of technology benefit different learning styles.  (Pitler, 2007)

  • 14. Differentiated Instruction Cont. Benefits Include: Visual Learners- Videos, Smart boards, ect.
  • 16. Independent Learners: Web Quests, Inquiry bases research using the internet.
  • 17. Success of Wired Classrooms Technology allows students to access a vast amount of knowledge that would not be possible in a traditional classroom.
  • 18. Students who use the internet to study, achieve higher marks then those who do not. (Mendels, 1996)
  • 19. What should we do? As educators we should...
  • 20. Understand that integration is a shift in how we teach, present, and assess.
  • 21. It is not simply placing computers in a classroom. (Stratford, 2010)
  • 22. What should we do? cont. A shift in our mindset will ensure student success in the future.
  • 23. How Does it benefit Us? Greater ease of collaboration with other teachers.
  • 24. Offers a new challenge and opportunity in teaching.
  • 25. Any benefit of a student gains, also applies to teaching. (ex: helps all learning styles, also helps all teaching styles.)
