The Sun and Moon were mortal lovers whose pure love made the goddess Aphrodite jealous. She tried to seduce the Sun away from the Moon, but he remained faithful to his beloved. Enraged, Aphrodite separated them, decreeing that the Sun would rise by day and the Moon at night. Though they could not meet, their love never ended. Zeus allowed them to see each other during solar eclipses, and every few years they were able to reunite in an act of love we now call an eclipse.
