- 3. Intro In this PowerPoint I am going to explain the functions of the different components like the CPU, power unit in a very basic non technical way.
- 4. Mother board Themother board consists of multiple components but its is the main part of the computer, the components involved include: CPU, north bridge, south bridge, GPU.
- 5. CPU TheCPU (central processing unit) is essentially the brain of the computer it controls every decision made and reacts to every thing you do on your pc. Lots of CPUs now are dual core which means there are two chips on the CPU this obviously means batter results from the computer.

North bridge and south bridge (short description) The function of the north bridge was : to control the communication between RAM and AGP The function of the south bridge was : to control the binary functions of the USB, bios, PCI, ISA, IDE and legacy These were their functions until they were put into the actual CPU in 2011
- 7. GPU TheGPU (graphics processing unit) is the part that puts images on your screen it is also used in things like phones and game consoles. They basically interpret the code into the image you see in front of you.
- 8. Memory In the memory there are these main types: ram, rom, flash memory and hard drive.
- 9. RAM RAM: this stands for (random access memory) this is a form of computer data storage and is usually in the form of integrated chips. It lets you access memory in bursts, the modern types of RAM/DRAM are no longer random access but the name stuck for no particular reason, it is associated with volatile types of memory because it loses memory when power is lost volatile memory or volatile storage is a form of memory component that requires power to store data.

ROM ROM: this stands for (read only memory) it usually cannot be edited but can either very slowly or with extreme difficulty because of the property of being difficult it is usually used in firmware which is attached to types of hardware so basically it is used in software needed for hardware for instance it is widely used in TV remote s it has been used in consumer products since the 1970's, it is also the oldest form of solid state, solid state is basically a disk that doesn’t move but can still be read by lasers.

Flash Memory Flashmemory: is non volatile data storage which means it can hold data without power, the information on it can be deleted electronically, the NAND types of memory include most types of widely used forms of data storage for PC's these include memory cards (increase the storage size), USB flash drives (memory sticks), solid state drives (SSD)
- 12. Hard Drive Hard drive: first invented in 1954 hard disk drives are a non volatile type of data storage it is the primary form of storage for every PC they consist of one or more rapidly rotating discs covered in a magnetic material and magnetic heads arranged to transfer data onto the surface of the disc and to read data from it, they are categorized as random access, digital, magnetic, through the years they have decreased in size but increased in the size of storage. The original storage size was 5 million 6-bit characters and now they are are much more efficient in storage size.
- 13. Power unit This does exactly what it sounds like it is for the input of power and distributing it amongst the units. It has a built in fan so that it does not over heat if the components within it were to over heat it would stop the whole computer would crash.
