Internet
A global network that connects
millions of computers together is known
as internet.
•    In 1967, ARPA proposed an idea to develop a small network of
    connected computer called Arpanet. In this network, each
    computer was connected to a specialized computer called
    interface message processor (IMP), which was connected to
    other IMPs. In 1969, ARPANET was implemented. Four
    computers at different geological location were connected
    through the IMPs to from a network.
•    In the late 1980s , the U.S National science Foundation(NSF)
    started exploring ways to enable access of their super
    computer to researches at various collages and universities.
    The NSF developed a network called the National Sciences
    Foundation Network switched over to the NSFNET.
Internet
   Tim Berners-Lee created the World Wide Wave(WWW) in 1980 at the
    European Organization for Nuclear Research.
    The WWW, popularity known as the Web, is a store house of
    information.It is a collection of serval document called Web pages is
    achived using hypertext.Hypertexts connect the content on one Web
    page to the content on another Web page.
   They can also be used to connect other sources of information on the
    Web, such as FTP server or multimedia objects.
   Hypertext are the highlighted or underline text on aWeb page. The
    cursor shape changes to a pointing hand when the mouse cursor is
    placed over the hypertext
   Uniform Resource Locator (URL):-Represent the address
    of a website on the internet.
   Web browser:- Is a program that you can use access a website
    on the internet by specifying the URL of the Website.
   Website:-Represents a set of interconnected Web pages
    displaying related information on a particular subject.
   Webpage:- Represents an set electronic document that the
    contents of a website.
   1977: 111 hosts on Internet
   1981: 213 hosts
   1983: 562 hosts
   1984: 1,000 hosts
   1986: 5,000 hosts
   1987: 10,000 hosts
   1989: 100,000 hosts
   1992: 1,000,000 hosts
   2001: 150 – 175 million hosts
   2002: over 200 million hosts
   By 2010, about 80% of the planet will be on the Internet
   For connecting to the internet, you need
    hardware as well a software components.

    The hardware components required are as
     follows:-
I.   A computer
II. Telephone connection or cable connection
III. An external or internal modem
The software components required are as follows:

   An operating system, such as windows

 TCP/IP – Protocol

 Web browser
