INTRODUCTION
 During the past few years, in the area of wireless communications and networking, a
novel paradigm named the Internet of Things (IoT) which was first introduced by Kevin
Ashton in the year 1998, has gained increasingly more attention in the academia and
industry.
 The Internet of Things (IoT) is the network of physical objects or "things" embedded
with electronics, software, sensors and connectivity to enable it to achieve greater
value and service by exchanging data with the manufacturer, operator and/or other
connected devices. Each thing is uniquely identifiable through its embedded
computing system but is able to interoperate within the existing Internet infrastructure.
 By embedding short-range mobile transceivers into a wide array of additional
gadgets and everyday items, enabling new forms of communication between
people and things, and between things themselves, IoT would add a new dimension
to the world of information and communication.
 The Internet of Things (IoT) is a scenario in which every THING in universe i.e., an
object, animal or humans are provided with unique identifiers and the ability to
automatically transfer data over a network without requiring human-to-human or
human-to-computer interaction. In simple words, everything is connected over IP and
would interact would each other based on pre-defined logic.
 IoT describes a system where items in the physical world, and sensors within or
attached to these items, are connected to the Internet via wireless and wired
Internet connections. These sensors can use various types of local area connections
such as NFC, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth etc. Sensors can also have wide area connectivity such
as GSM, GPRS, 3G, and LTE.
TRENDS
 The Internet of Things, or IoT, is emerging as the next technology
mega-trend, with repercussions across the business spectrum. The
IoT merges the physical and online worlds, opening up a host of new
opportunities and challenges for companies, governments and
consumers.
 The internet of the things is emerging as the third wave of the
internet.
 As per Gartner forecast made in Dec, 2013, the Internet of Things
(IoT), which excludes PCs, tablets and smartphones, will grow to 26
billion units installed in 2020 representing an almost 30-fold increase
from 0.9 billion in 2009.
MY INTEREST
 Implementation of IoT is based on an
architecture consisting of four layers.
 Application layer at the top of the stack is
responsible for delivery of various applications to
different users in IoT. The applications can be
from different industry verticals such as:
manufacturing, logistics, retail, environment,
public safety, healthcare, food and drug etc.
With the increasing maturity of RFID technology,
numerous applications are evolving which will
be under the umbrella of IoT.
 I want to do the project related to the
application layer.
THANK YOU
