Interpersonal Behavior… {IPB} IPB is the study of one’s own perception, knowledge , attitude & motivation and how these affect one’s behavior to the self & with others. It is characterized mainly by 3 factors… Communication skill :  Knowledge / literacy / intelligence Listening skill Verbal skill Active listening/feedback

EGO STATES{ES} & TRANSACTIONAL ANALYSIS{TA}… People during interaction with others operate from different ego states… Parent {exteropsychic} ES Adult {neopsychic} ES Child {archaeopsychic} ES Also , the transaction may occur in 2 ways.. Parallel / complementary / reciprocal Cross
{TA…} Effective communication occurs in parallel transaction only. TA model {e.g..} P P A A C C TEACHER I
INTERPERSONAL CIRCLE… interpersonal circle (see figure at left, a model of Donald Kiesler's [1983] borrowed from Michael Gurtman), such that correspondence tends to occur on the affiliation axis (friendliness invites friendliness, and hostility invites hostility), and reciprocity tends to occur on the power axis (dominance invites submission, and submission invites dominance).
OPEN SELF PERSONALITY… When a person knows about oneself what others know too. & is willing to share his feelings , thoughts , ideas , & values with others is known as an open self personality. Build relationship Become trustworthy Build overall personality Help improving communication skill Build self-respect Gain confidence Importance :-
{continue…} Gain knowledge Become popular in social group Become role-model/ mentor for others Have professional development too. Learn a number of things… overall promotion in life.
Certain ways to develop one’s own IPS :- Introspect within yourself to know the type of self Decide your objective with set-limits {i.e. where you need to be more open} Say “HELLO” first with a smile  Be appreciative , motivate & help others Be punctual Bring people together Resolve conflicts Keep small successes going on – enjoy it with people around you. Share your dreams , desires ,hobbies & ambitions.
{continue…} Pay attention to others Practice active listening Communicate clearly Humour them Don’t complain / blame /… Empathize Be creative Use “WE” instead of “I” Make use of power words. Give positive strokes.
STROKES… There are basically 2 types of strokes: Positive {warm fuzzies } “ I’m ok you are ok” types…. Negative {cold pricklies} I’m ok , you are not ok {projective position} I’m not ok , you are not ok {introjective position} I’m not ok . You are not ok. {futility position}
After developing these skills, one can…… Work harmoniously with others Evaluate and accept responsibilities Identify methods you use to respond to conflict Work in teams more efficiently
IPS Healthy interpersonal skills reduce stress, reduce conflict, improve communication, enhance intimacy, increase understanding, and promote joy . There are just six interpersonal skills which form a process that is applicable to all situations: Analyzing the situation Establishing a realistic objective Selecting appropriate ways of behaving Controlling your behavior Shaping other people's behavior Monitoring our own and others' behavior
Improving ips…. Communication Skills:  Communion demands that we listen as well as speak Assertiveness Skills  :Expressing yourself and your rights without violating the rights of others Conflict Resolution : Conflict is natural and inevitable. Conflict Resolution helps you resolve differences so that you may continue with the relationship in an effective way. Anger Management:  Knowing how to recognize and express anger appropriately can help us to reach goals, handle emergencies, solve problems and even protect our health.
