We all know that a job interview can be
a nerve wrecking experience!
You will encounter many interviews
throughout your working life, and
potentially for entrance to further
education, so it's important that you
develop skills and techniques that
enable you to come across well and
verbalise your thoughts.
Let’s imagine you have an interview for
Three next week…

Here are some helpful hints…
Read up on the company.
Before Your Interview…
Plan your route to venue.
Practise answers to
questions you are likely to
be asked.
Pick your outfit!
Interviewers will often ask you
towards the end of your interview
‘Do you have any questions?’
Prepare some!
On the day…
Take your CV with you, even if you
already have a copy
Be punctual - be early and you can
always wait in a nearby café if you are
really early
Smile when you meet your interviewer
Wait to be offered a chair before sitting
down
Avoid feeling like you have to talk
constantly, when it's appropriate - listen
Remember to evidence your soft
skills or strengths
Focus on positive achievements
and views
Try to use experiences that are
most relevant to the job
Try to engage in conversation.
Avoid answering questions with
yes or no - try to elaborate
Be honest

Three Practice Tasks:
1. The Interview Roundabout:
In groups of three, practice interviewing each other.
One person takes the role of Interviewer, one
Interviewee, one person to observe and critique. Then
rotate. Use the ‘Typical Questions’ hand out to help
you out.
2. Public Interviews:
Who feels brave enough to be interviewed by a Three /
MKF rep – answer three questions only!
3. Sell the Pen:
An interview is about showing your personality – if you
can sell the pen, you can sell yourself to a potential
employer!

  • #9: Interview roundabout can be done in a small space – allow time for each person to have a go – 10 minutes Public interview – take 3 one at a time volunteers to publically show us what they have! Get them to choose a job within Three to pretend to interview for and then go for it! Use handout sheet for questions – 7-10 minutes Sell the pen – take 3 volunteers one at a time to have a go at selling me the pen! What makes the pen great? Why would I would I want it? What makes it special?
  • #12: Before I share a film that I hope will bring Three to live for you all, let’s find out how much you know already. Who’s heard of Three before today? What type of jobs and departments do you think Three has? Ok great, well time to find out a bit more. We’ve created this film to help you understand a little more about who we are and what we stand for. Given your responses, there may be a few surprises towards the end…
  • #13: So as you saw in the film, there are lots of different roles at Three beyond the more obvious ones in retail and maybe engineering. Here is an overview of the whole organisation just to give you the full picture. We aren’t going to go through all of these, this is just to show you an example of how many functions there are within Three and on top of that the wide range of team and focus areas that sit within them! You may also be relieved to know that the degrees you’re studying are providing you with valuable skills and knowledge that’s relevant for a wide variety of these roles. And you can move around within a business like ours once you join. We have some employees that have been with us since before we even launched in 2003 who have worked in nearly all of our departments. Obviously for some roles a more technical degree or set of skills is required, but for a lot of them there is a lot of on-the-job learning and it’s actually your transferable skills and experience that can be most valuable to us as an employer.
  • #14: We know how hard it is to know what opportunities are out there for you beyond the ‘story book’ jobs like doctors, teachers, lawyers etc. that we hear about as we grow up. At Three we like to right the wrongs and reinvent the rules when we think we can make something that sucks better. So we created Reimagined Learning to give university students like you a chance to find out what our industry can offer you. First-hand. And in a fun and interesting way. In return, it’s a fantastic opportunity for us to raise awareness of ourselves as an employer to potential future employees like you and to gain your unique perspectives and ideas about our business.
