What is an interview?
• A series of questions an employer will give an
applicant and the answers from the applicant
• A way for them to learn more about you
– Additional skills
– Social comfort
– Best job fit in the company
• A way for you to learn more about them
What is an interview?
• Confirm date and time
• Ask who you will interview with
• Research the company
• Know your destination (map, travel time,
room)
Before the interview
• Dress more professional than your interviewer
• Bring resume copies
– They might not have one
• Arrive 10 minutes early
• Shake hands
– You’re opening a door with confidence
• Confident body language
– Smile, eye contact, posture
The day of the interview

• Do your research.
• Learn about the job and the
company.
• Have an answer ready.

Good interviewers ask
open-ended questions.
• Tell me about your experience taking
care of animals.
• What do you know about cats?
• Respond to them with stories you
have already thought about. Tell good
stories that make you look good.

Good questions for interviewer:
• What would I need to do to become shift
supervisor?
• What is a quality you most need in an
employee?
• These are questions that continue to
demonstrate your interest in the
company. They make you look good.
Bad questions for interviewer:
• How many days of vacation do I get?
• How often do you give raises?
• Are you on Instagram?
• These are questions that look self-
centered and less focused on the job.
Follow up after a day or two
• Email
• Phone call
• Thank you for your time.
• I had a question about …
• I forgot to mention a strength/skill you may be
interested in.
