Where we work The Western Balkans British Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) funded project  “Building from Within: Reuniting Europe by Strengthening and Connecting its third sector” in Albania, Kosovo and Montenegro Producing in-depth unique research on each civil society Running high-level training Masterclasses Gathering key stakeholders at national conferences Coordinating international job-shadowing exchanges Project’s impacts Council of Europe ran extra seminars on the project’s research UK Charity Age Concern now in talks to set up in Albania National Democratic Institute, the charity of the Democrats, will now re-focus their priorities on governance following EN’s work in the region Plans to scale-up the projects activities in 2009-2011
Where we work Former Soviet Union  In June 2009, EN were awarded funding from the United Nations Democracy Fund to develop and connect civil society in Ukraine and Moldova. Activities will include: a sustainable regional forum,  a series of innovative practitioner-focused events,  a good practice handbook,  and an internet portal that will both reinforce democratic infrastructure and increase CSO quality The project will, in the long term, result in stronger, more legitimate and credible CSOs with more effective democratic participation. EN is working on funding opportunities to connect and develop civil society in Belarus.
Where we work Mediterranean EN plan to replicate our work across the Euro-Med region including Egypt, Turkey, Israel, Jordan and Lebanon Process will begin with a two day event that will highlight the specific leadership needs of civil society leaders in the region
The Northern Hub EN’s Northern Hub was launched on 30 June in Gotland, Sweden The Northern Hub will: Connect leaders from the Baltic Republics and former Soviet Union countries including Specfically meet the needs of third sector leaders in the region Develop regional connections Facilitate regional job-shadowing exchanges
National professional bodies EN has supported the creation of the first Italian body for third sector leaders, Leader2Leader, launched in June 2008 and the first Slovenian body, Slovenian Association of NGO Managers, launched in March 2009 Other groups are in development in Portugal, Spain, Germany and Ireland

Innovative methodologies including: International job-shadowing exchanges Tailored participatory workshops Innovative technologies on the Euclid Network website Increasing knowledge sharing between the US and Europe Partnership with Harvard University offering executive education courses Cross-border Leadership
Strategic priorities Good   Governance EN’s good third sector governance project launched in Paris, November 2008 Aims to identify principles of good governance across Europe and develop tools of implementation  Ultimate goal is to set up European standards and certification of good governance Peer-review group to review and measure organisational governance has been established Closely linked to EU funding reform project
Strategic priorities Income Generation Recession Providing support and advice for members to enable them to  diversify their revenue streams and increase financial sustainability Tailored training in income generation and EU funding with tools  such as the EU funding helpdesk and the EN website. Reform of EU funding procedures European Commission have allowed EN to set up a working group within DG Education and Culture to help reform EU funding regulation in the next EU budget starting in 2014 Campaign for a European Social Investment Bank
