Access Link Monitoring
Technical Marketing
December 9, 2014
Avoidable Costs of Unmonitored
Access Links
Typical Dark Fiber SLA
• End-Customer
needs to report failure
• Fiber supplier has to
respond within x hours
• Maintenance might
create service
disruption
Cost & Lost Revenue
• Extended MTTR; lost revenue due
to unfavorable SLAs
• False alarms trigger truck rolls;
denser service network
• Need for manual, service-affecting
testing; lost revenue from
unavailability
Not knowing,
means suffering
There is a solution to it! Operators can grow
business and improve client loyalty

FSP 3000 ALM
• FSP 3000 Access Link Monitoring (ALM) is a new product that
enables real-time monitoring, fault detection and fault localization
for access and dark-fiber links
• ALM continuously monitors multiple fibers using optical test signals
in combination with passive optical demarcation
• ALM is independent of data rates, data formats and protocols
• ALM requires following equipment deployment
• One Processor Module for multiple fibers in CO/head-end
• One passive coupler per access fiber in CO/head-end
• One passive optical reflector per access fiber at CPE/far-end
