Introduction
Digital Portfolios as an authentic assessment of student work – Parents’ perspective
And the question is… Will parental perception of digital portfolios positively increase from January, 2011 to March, 2011 as more and more student content is added?
Why is this important? Educators need to use alternative authentic assessments to represent the learning of their students. Digital or electronic portfolios can provide one authentic insight into the learning of the student over the course of a school year. The selection of the artifacts, the reflection of learning and limitless opportunities for expression styles can offer a window into the learning road map that the student has taken. Parents/students/teachers can review the digital portfolio at any time convenient for them. Parents can offer feedback on the building process of these electronic portfolios as they are developed throughout the school year. The hope was that this research study would become a positive parent-school connection where all interested parties work together toward the goal of creating an authentic portfolio of student learning.
Highlights of Literature Review Research supports the hypothesis that digital portfolios have a positive effect on student learning. Studies that support this include – 1.
