गभोपक्रमववज्ञानं सुतर्कोपक्रमस्र्था |
बालानां रोगशमनीक्रक्रया बाल चचक्रकण्त्ससर्म ||

• Antenatal period, abnormal fetal growth and
hazards may results in complications at birth.
• Antenatal- anemia, garbhopghatkar bhav, rh
incomplibility, IUGR etc.
Importance of Kaumarbhritya
कौमारभृत्सयमष्टानां र्न्त्राणां आध्यमुच्यर्े |
आयुवेदस्य महर्ो देवानाममव हव्यपः ||
अनेन हह संवचधार्ं इर्रे चचक्रकत्ससण्न्र् (का.वव.)

• Main branch among the 8 branches
• Imp. Compared with the agni devta
• Home, havan etc. offerings are carried to all
other devta.
• Agni is mediator
• Similarly, all remaining other branches will
getting pts if kb physician looks after the baby,
treats disease and make them grow and
survive up to 16 days.

(ka.chi.dhatri chikitsit)under stress.

madhur and palatable.
• Medicine administration is challenge
• Specific calculated dose
• Many procedures can not be administered for
child which requires modification in
comparison to adults.

• That is tissues are not completely developed. Like bp
is less, muscles, urinary system, GIT.
• Lakshan are not manifested completely. i.e.
secondary sexual characters are not developed.
Vyanjan- smashru, stanaadi.
• Sukumaar- delicate.

Pediatrics- Greek word
Pedo pais- child
iatros- healer
• Branch of medicine that deals with the care of
children and adolescents.
• Covers the age group less than 18 yr of age.
• Child survival, remain healthy, attain highest
possible potential of growth, development and
intellectual achievement.
• Gestational age- This is the total period of
days fetus lies inside the uterus, which is
calculated from first day of last menstrual
period till date of birth in completed weeks.
Prenatal period
• Ovum- 0-14 days
• Embryo- 14 days to 9wks
• Fetus- 9 wk to birth
• Perinatal period- 22 wks to 7 days after birth
Post natal period
• Newborn- first 4 wks after birth
• Infancy- first year
• Toddler- 1-3 year
• preschool child- 3-6 yr
• School age child- 6-12yr
• Adolescence
• Early- 10-13 yr
• Middle- 14-16 yr
• Late- 17-20 yr
• Preterm- A neonate born before 37 weeks of
gestation irrespective of the birth weight.
• Term- refer to completed weeks of gestation,
e.g. 36 weeks gestation, range- 36 wks 0-6
days
• Post term- A neonate born at a gestation age
of 42 weeks or more.
Live birth
• A product of conception, irrespective of wt or
gestational age, that after separation from
mother, shows any evidence of life such as
breathing, heart beat, pulsation, of umbilical
cord or definite movement of voluntary
muscles.
Birth wt.
Wirth wt. –
• the wt of the newborn measured immediately after
delivery or as soon as possible. It expressed in
grams or kilograms
LBW-
•A neonate weighing less than 2500 g at birth
irrespective of the gestational age.
Very low birth weight neonate-
• A neonate weighing less than 1500 g at birth
irrespective of the gestational age.
• Extremely low birth wt.- A neonate weighing
less than 1000 g at birth irrespective of the
gestational age
Age
• AGA- appropriate for gestational age
• An infant with a birth weight between the 10th
and 90th percentiles fro that particular
gestational age.
• Those infants lie below 10th percentile are
considered as small for gestational age
• Those who fall above 90th percentile are
considered as large for gestational age.
Death
• Prenatal death- death of baby from the 28th
week of gestational age of the fetus.
• Neonatal death- death of a live born baby
before completion of 28 days of age.
• Infant death- death of alive born baby before
completion of 1st year of age.
