Research is a systematic study that involves carefully collecting, analyzing, and interpreting quantitative data or facts to relate human thinking to reality. It involves posing a question, collecting data to answer it, and presenting an answer. The goals of research are to generate new knowledge, find applications for it, and verify existing knowledge, as well as develop the investigator. There are three main types of research: basic research seeks fundamental truths, applied research develops new systems to solve problems, and developmental research applies scientific methods to improve practices. Descriptive research observes and records natural changes.

- 5. 1.BASIC RESEARCH -- “fundamental research” or “pure research”. -- It seeks to discover basic truths or principles. Ex. Boyle’s Law Archimedes Principle Newton’s Law
- 6. 2. APPLIED RESEARCH --Involves seeking new applications of scientific knowledge to the solution of a problem, such as the development of a new system or procedure, new device, or new method in order to solve the problem. Ex. Wastes problem Gas Shortage
- 7. 3. DEVELOPMENTAL RESEARCH -- this is a decision-oriented research involving the application of the steps of the scientific method in response to an immediate need to improve existing practices.
- 8. 1. DESCRIPTIVE RESEARCH -- it should observe and record the changes as they happen in nature. Ex. Taxonomic studies Historical researches
