Theoretical Evaluation of Production


Question 1:
Describe and evaluate your skills development over the course
of your production work, from Foundation Portfolio to Advanced
Portfolio.
•   Question 1(a) requires candidates to describe and evaluate their skills development
    over the course of their production work, from Foundation Portfolio to Advanced
    Portfolio. The focus of this evaluation must be on skills development, and the
    question will require them to adapt this to one or two specific production practices.

    The list of practices to which questions will relate is as follows:

•   Digital Technology

•   Creativity

•   Research and planning

•   Post-production

•   Using conventions from real media texts

    In the examination, questions will be posed using one or two of these categories.
Jot down the production skills you have
developed over the two year media course

Organise your skills under the following headings (certain skills
may well fall under more than one heading):

•Why are media production skills important?
•How have media production skills learnt on the course helped you to be
creative?
•What digital technology have you used during AS and A2?
•What research and planning have you done during AS and A2?

•How have you used existing forms and conventions from real media products
in AS and A2 projects?
Exam Question for 1(A)



1 (a) “Digital technology turns media consumers into media producers”. In your

     own experience, how has your creativity developed through using digital
     technology to complete your coursework productions? [25 Marks]
January 2010 Exam Question: 1(A)
 “Describe how you developed research and planning skills for media
 production and evaluate how these skills contributed to creative decision
 making. Refer to a range of examples in your answer to show how these
  skills developed over time”. (25 marks)
June 2010 Exam Question 1(A):
Describe the ways in which your production work was informed by research into
real media texts and how your ability to use such research for production
has developed over time. [25]
Question 1(b) requires candidates to select one production and
evaluate it in relation to a media concept:


Genre

Narrative

Representation

Audience

Media language
You will need to refer to your work for the Foundation (Magazine
Project) and Advanced (Music Promo Package) Portfolio units.


Marks are awarded for:
• Explanation / analysis / argument (10 marks)
• Use of examples (10 marks)
• Use of terminology (5 marks)
