DesignandProductionPlanning
The aim of the course is the design and the development of a new product, by
implementing a set of methods aimed at bringing the following functions of an
enterprise:
1) Design
2) Manufacturing
3) Marketing
Each enterprise function is considered like independent and not integrated. Even if
the design of a new product is a complex task, it did not require a revision process,
due to the low enterprise interaction.

DesignandProductionPlanning
A technical model of the product is a tool to predict the values of the metrics for a
particular set of design decisions. The term model is used to refer to both analytical
and physical approximations of the products.
Analytical model = simulations Physical model = prototypes - DoE

Conclusions
A first experience on teaching, at university level, the basic concepts
of HyperMesh Desktop was presented
The aim of the proposed activity was to provide a tool which the
students could use for finding optimized model specifications
Simple linear static, normal modes and buckling analyses were
carried out from each group
The code interface and the different steps to follow for properly
setting simulations was not easy to introduce and to explain in the
course
The most motivated students exceeded the initial settings by
proposing numerical models with growing difficulties
For the future years, the idea is to dedicate more hours to the code
learning (i.e. OptiStruct Optimization will be introduced over the
next academic year)
