 What music is
 What music theory fundamentals are
 Examples of music theory fundamentals
 Waves
What is Music

produce beauty of form, harmony and expression of emotion.
Something that is very pleasant or gratifying to hear or discover.
Music theory fundamentals
 Sound
 Pitch
 Note
 Timbre
 Tone
What is sound
Mechanical pressure waves that travel through physical medium are called waves.
Examples for physical mediums include air, water, bricks.
And cannot travel through the universe or vacuum.
Sound has the properties called frequency, speed, amplitude, duration, wave
length

What is a Trough and what is a crest in a
sound wave graph
2.What is pitch
Specific frequency of sound produced by vibrating object.
For example guitar or violin strings.
Musically a pitch is like the harmonic value of a note and it is said to be higher or
lower than other pitches.
For Example G5 note has a higher pitch than the C5.
Piano keyboard
3. What is a note in music
 A name given to a specific pitch (for example C, D, E, F,….. .) with a particular
duration, loudness and quality.
If two notes have the same pitch even though the rhythmic values varies, then they
are the same note.
For example if we press and hold the note C for 1 second and if we press and hold
the same note for 2 seconds, we’ve played the same note.
4. What is Timbre
Timbre is like sound colour or sound quality that comes from different instruments.
 For example,
1. C note played on the piano
2. C note played on the guitar
3. C note played on the violin
4. C note played on the sitar.
5. What is tone
