I Understand what I am able to I am able to
the principle identify the 4 main describe the
behind Pre- types of Pre- purpose of each
Production is Production of the techniques.
                    techniques
Pre – Production is the basic skills needed to successfully
prepare to create a multimedia product.
For example in the film industry the production teams
might create the following resources:

 Mind Map
 Storyboard
 Mood Board
 Location Search
 Prop Analysis

All of these combined will help create a focus for the
product
Used as a tool to put all ideas
together regarding the make up of
the product.

The idea is to create links between
areas and show production
structure
Mood Boards are a first line
tool to help a designer get to
grips with what a client
wants.

They are made as a collage,
normally on a A3 board. They
can contain:

• Pictures
• Photographs
• Colours
• Screenshots
• Text
Storyboards are mainly used when producing an animation or a
video product. They are used to show a visualization of the process
of the story. Each box is part of a scene in the production.
This is an image used to show
what something could look
like in a final production.

Take this image for example:

This is a design for a DVD
cover of a movie. Each part is
annotated and alternatives
are clearly shown.
 Usingthe “Pre – Production Information
sheet” explain the purpose of each of the
 stated techniques.

 Givean example of where they may be
used and the reason why it would be
 useful.
