RFID BASED
PATIENT QUEUE MANAGEMENT
SOLUTION
 Queue Management is a known pain area for Individual hospitals, hospital chains,
healthcare centres etc.
 Various test centers and consulting rooms, located across different floors of the
hospital.
 Due to lack of dynamic queuing, some test centres are highly crowded while some
have few patients waiting.
 Patients not aware of their wait time in a test centre/ consultancy room.
 Doctors/ consultants not aware of the number of patients waiting for consultancy
 Time wasted due to queuing inefficiencies, resulting in fewer than optimal
number of Patient Health Checks
AREAS OF CONCERN
 Patients issued RFID tagged Card (reusable) (To be collected back on completion
of tests)
 Patient details are linked to the RFID tag.
 RFID Readers installed at various counters, test areas & counseling rooms read
the RFID tagged patient
 Strategically located LCD and Kiosks guide and inform the patients of their current
status in the Queue.
 Various Counters assign the patients to test centres and counseling rooms
through system or automatic assignment in case of Dynamic Queuing
 System keeps track of the number of patients at each test centre
 “Dynamic Queuing” ensures that all test centres are uniformly populated by
dynamically routing the patients in real-time to the relevant test centres.
THE SOLUTION
 The moment a patient is identified, his/ her existing details are fetched from the
database.
 The details of the patient are displayed on the computer screens of the relevant
technicians/ consultants in the form of pop-up.
 The technicians/ consultants update the test details in the pop-up.
 Once these details are successfully updated in the system, the transaction (test/
session) is considered as completed.
TIMEFRAMES:
 The entire solution deployment time is 3-5 weeks and including the lead time to
source and integrate the hardware

SOLUTION COMPONENTS
 The technicians and the consultants just need to login to the system to view the
patient details in Real-Time in the form of pop-up
 System driven patient routing/ management between various test centres in the
form of audio and video (LCD screens, kiosks etc)
 Patient’s details can be viewed at any time by just entering patient’s unique ID
number in the system or by scanning the tag.
 Details on completed & pending tests for each patient along with their current
location available automatically in Real-time .
EASE OF USE
 Provide “Dynamic Queuing” using FIFO / Customized process, thereby ensuring
that patients get serviced at the earliest
 Enable & empower the technicians/ consultants to seamlessly identify patients
 View details on completed & pending tests for each patient along with their current
location.
 Ensure bottlenecks are avoided and all test centres are used optimally
 Vastly improved service times and Turn around Time (TAT).
 Real-Time view on the total number of patients across various stages of the process
 Real-Time Reports

RFID Based
Patient Tracking Solution
at AHC
Project Scope
 Automatic Identification of patients (carrying RFID tagged card) when
they enter various test centers and consulting rooms
 Simultaneously fetching the identified patient’s details as linked to the
UHID/AHC number
 Display of pop-up (listing patient details) on the predefined technicians /
consultants computer screen/s. Giving real time information on the
number of patients waiting in the queue to the predefined technicians/
consultants at each test center and counter.
 Display of estimated wait time and service time for each patient at the
predefined test centers. LCD screens to display queue.
 Ensuring dynamic queuing for the tagged patients by facilitating patient
routing in real time thereby avoiding crowding of patients at particular
test center and reducing the Turn Around Time (TAT) for the patients
 Generation of customized, real-time (or pre-defined frequency) and time
stamped reports
Process
1. Once the patient has finished registration and billing, tag will be
assigned to the patient.
2. Using E-HIS screen, operator will assign tag to the patient.
3. The tag can be hung around the neck or worn on the wrist and MUST
stay with the patient at all times till all the tests are completed.
4. The tag MUST be returned to Billing Counter after the patient completes
the AHC tests.
5. The patient will be read automatically at every test center and the queue
is updated automatically.
6. The total time spent by the operator’s and technician’s/doctors on the
pop-ups are a few seconds.
Site Layout
First Step: Billing Counter
1. This activity will be done at Billing Counter.
2. The tag assigning operator will take a tag and flash it near the reader
placed on the desk.
3. In the e-HIS window, list of patients, who have finished billing will be
displayed.
4. The operator then clicks on the “Accept” button against the name of the
patient, to whom the tag is to be assigned.
5. A pop-up will appear with patient details, along with the “Tag Assigned”
confirmation.
6. The patient then proceeds to Test Center.
7. The next few slides takes you through a step by step AHC process.

Current Queue Status
 The information of current queue status of the process, will be fetched
from e-HIS.
 The information will be displayed on the Central LCD screen.
 Any deviation, like patient not reporting to the Test Center in time, will
be displayed on the screen.

Process Flow: Test Centers
1. As a patient enters any of the designated test centers, history taking rooms or
consulting rooms, a pop up automatically comes on the screen for the patient
entered.
2. The technician/doctor then proceeds with the test and when the test is
completed.
3. The technician/doctors clicks on the appropriate option shown in the e-HIS
pop-up.
4. A new pop-up is displayed which gives current queue status of various Test
Centers and an option of Assigning Patient to the Test Center.
5. The technician/Doctor selects Test Center from the drop down and assigns
patient.
6. If a patient enters an unassigned test center, a message “Patient Not in a
Queue” pops up. The technician/doctor can direct the patient to the correct
test center from the information displayed on the screen.
7. The next few slides takes you through a step by step pop-up process at the
different test centers.
