This document discusses performance studies of Vanadis23 tool steel in turning operations using the Taguchi method. Vanadis23 is a powder metallurgy tool steel that can achieve uniform carbide spacing and segregation-free microstructures. Tool life depends on factors like tool material, work material, and cutting conditions. Tool wear, especially flank and crater wear, reduces tool life. The document proposes a mathematical model to evaluate wear of Vanadis23 tools based on heat treatment and cutting parameters. Taguchi's orthogonal array method will be used to design the experiments to validate the model.
