Use of Online Technology For Multimedia Education -- response This article discussed how technology is changing the way that students approach reading itself and the dynamic ways that technology has changed how we interpret text. The author contends that technology gives words a new dimension. I understand the context he/she discusses, and I agree with the conclusion that educators have to change their approach to teaching.
Quote from the text: “ The World Wide Web offers educators a new medium to deliver teaching and learning material, allowing flexibility for learning from home or workplace and the ability to cope with a widening variety of backgrounds and qualifications.” (Nataraian, 2006) The author implies that anybody can benefit from online educational opportunities.
From Presentation to Interaction: New Goals for Online Learning Technologies - response This article does a good job of discussing barriers to online educational opportunities and how the obstacles can be overcome. One problem discussed is that most of the lessons supplied via the web are linear in nature and guide students through a step by step process leading to the same ending for everyone. What is missing is the chance for students to take over the educational process and choose their own next steps, a process that the author suggests is the only way to create true learning. I do not agree 100% with the author because I think that some of the linear activities have substantial value, but I can also understand how students would be more vested in the learning process if they had more control over the direction the instruction takes.
Reaching the Inner Circle Tu supplies a framework that displays the levels of acquiring knowledge via technology. The article discusses the importance of validating the information, personalizing the learning, and then storing for later retrieval. Unless all phases are satisfied in the model, the pathway to knowledge is hindered. (Tu, 2005)
