• #4: Hello. My name is Azlinda Abdullah. Hereby, I’m sharing with you on my Job Shadowing task.
• #5: The agreed period was for a week at the Junior Library and the lovely lady assigned to this task was Sheue Mui, the Senior Library Officer in the Junior Library.
• #6: Reason for this job shadowing is to enable us to be aware of other libraries daily operations and to apply the skills taught should the need arise to assist them.
• #7: Before I can proceed to know how Junior library operates, I have to familiarise myself with the collections and layout of the library first. Checked out the lovely setting and decorations of the library.
• #8: The exclusive Mezzanine Floor themed as Our World : many stories; is used for silent reading and accessing the iPads and iPods only. Interesting concept as students do adhere to the rules here.
• #9: Though we are not serving the same group of students, the basic services provided are similar. Therefore I was very familiar with the Circulation process of the Junior Library.
• #10: Everyone knows that no 2 libraries are the same therefore I am pleased to be given the opportunity to know the different platforms used to promote our library services.
• #11: One thing that I can sum up after the week stay is that; I have truly enjoyed this job shadowing task and I would be glad to come back!
• #14: Hi, everyone, I am Nurul and I am Joana and we’re going to share with you the libraries we’ve visited for our CPD over the course of 2 years.
• #15: CIS library runs over two floors. It houses 40,000 books and the view overlooking the lake adds to the café-like charm of the library.
• #16: Like Tanglin, students at the Australian International School are to store their belongings in the cubby holes when they are in the library.
• #17: The NLB Supply Centre is where all the public libraries’ new booksare sentfor sorting and processing.This is where all the “technical processing” of materials occur.
• #18: The conservation and preservation of rare materials and micro-filming are also carried out here. To prevent damage from occuring, safety precautions are taken by staff.
• #19: At Singapore Polytechnic - Students can de-stress themselves by playing card games, board games and even Xbox! Here’s their XboxKinect Stations at their Media Zone.
• #20: SP library is one of the most interesting libraries here in Singapore not only because of their displays but because of their “The Drawing Room” where you can scribble away on the writeable walls and tables.
• #21: To cater to varying needs, different schools have different ways of cataloguing and shelving things.We use coloured stickers for our language books and place the barcode on the title page.
• #22: Other libraries uses “Destiny” as their Library System Manager but here at Tanglin we uses “Oliver”
• #23: Ideas we have seen in other libraries and adopted into our owninclude installing compact shelving to maintain our collection of textbooks betterand we’re looking forward to reorganising our adult fiction under genres.
• #30: Being the global voice of the library and information profession, IFLA has indeed come a long to achieve what they have today. The congress has given me an insight on how libraries have evolved in their services, be it in the developing or developed countries. As such, this rare opportunity was indeed any eye-opener for me!
• #33: IntroductionHi, I’m Yati Library Officer from the Infant Library and Atiqah, Library Officer from the Senior Library. We will be sharing with you our experiences on the staffs continuous professional development.Which year you attended the courseI attended Higher Certificate in Library and Information Services in 2010 and Atiqah attended in 2013.Last year I’ve completed the next level which is Advanced Certificate in Library and Information Services
• #34: Courses are by WDA together with Library association of Singapore and National Library Academy. It is certified by Singapore Workforce skills qualification.
• #35: HCLIS can be achieved by completing 5 modules. I use my CPD leave to take time off for class and assessments. Most class are 2 days long except bib control
• #36: Assessments are open book, we can bring in our learner’s guide to the exam room & are tested by oral questioning with either role playing, written assignment or practical test.
• #37: Our trainers are experience former librarians & polytechnic lecturers who keep lessons interactive by discussing real scenarios in workplace and how to deal with it
• #38: modules are conducted in group and class discussion, a lot of sharing of best practices. I not only learn things from the book but by other library officer’s experiences too.
• #39: ACLIS is a complete course that covers the lifecycle of library management at a supervisory level. To qualify for the ACLIS, all 8 modules need to be successfully completed which includes acquisitions, collection maintenance, circulation, bibliographic control, coaching and more.
• #40: Here are the next course running dates. There are two intakes per year due to the popularity of the course.In total there’s 21 days of classroom lectures.Besides the close book assessment there are also assignments as well as oral and practical.
• #41: Participants from different libraries shared their ideas and library practices which includes SOP, promotional outreach and many more. These are just some of the classroom group activities that we did.One of this is an example of an activity that was done by my group.We were tasked to do a workflow for a class visit to the library which can be used to coach a new staff.
• #42: Having participants from both academic and non-academic libraries, this course allows me the opportunity to widen my experience, exchange ideas and apply the relevant for my own professional development.
• #44: Hi my name is Jaaziel. Today, my colleagues – rozanavani and I will be sharing with you our experiences during The job swap programme. The job swap experience is a two week exchange pramme where TLRC staff were given the opp to exp working in different libraries as part of our Continuous Pro Dev.
• #55: A group of ladies from the Charles Sturt University, Australia, came to Singapore last September on a study visit, where we were asked to accompany them to various libraries
• #56: Su Foo and I were asked to escort these ladies to a few of our wonderful libraries we have here in Singapore
• #57: I loved the ideas that the Architectural level at Singapore Poly had, their use of space and furniture made it warm and welcoming.
• #58: I loved the the way space was used for dual purposes, for discussion work or quiet reading, the choice is yours.
• #59: Food and drink are not allowed in our library. So having an Internet Café, I think, would prove very popular with our students
• #60: I was asked to lead a walking tour of Chinatown for the CSU group. So I went on a little recce and dropped by Chinatown Visitors Centre!
• #61: With 20+ visitors trailing at my heels, this meant no random U-turns so I needed to put names to streets and to check their orientation.
• #62: In my planning I see Chinatown from a visitor’s perspective – from local food, traditional beliefs & practices to the little quirky objects present in our daily lives.
• #63: Places I would usually walk by and take for granted are given a second look and in the process, I uncovered for myself some surprising information and new discoveries.
• #65: Hello everybody, this is Xiao Mang, I would like to present the EPQ online training.
• #66: The EPQ Qualification is offered by AQA. It is required for all A level students in our school.
• #67: The EPQ online training aims to enable library staff to have a complete knowledge about the program to provide better support for students.
• #68: The course consists of 6 modules. Candidates can go through the modules at their preferred time and pace.
• #69: Upon completion, a certificate from SLA will be issued to the candidate as evidence of CPD.
• #70: Module 1 and Module 2 introduce the background information and the structure elements about EPQ.
• #71: Module 3 covers the three elements of EPQ and Module 4 talks about the assessment and mark scheme for EPQ .
• #72: Module 5 and 6 talk about how to help students to search and select resources and address academic honesty in reports.
• #73: After the course, I have a better understanding about EPQ and becomemore actively involved in helping students in referential tasks.
• #74: There are many other online CPD courses available, they provide opportunities for library staff to catch up with technology and skills.
• #87: Hi, we are from the Senior Library.Today, we are sharing with you why we keep notebooks & committed to blogging.
• #88: You don’t need fancy apps & the latest gadgets. You just need a notebook and a pen.Be it a moleskin diary or a leather jacket notepad – as long as you could record your thoughts/ideas on the paper,…. it is good enough. You don’t need a backup unless you are running out of pages (whereby you could go shopping for more) or if you would lose the whole thing (which would be unfortunate).We love our notebooks. And we will tell you why…
• #89: Being a serial lister, I like to list down everything from to do list to my thinking process. When I have the visual outcome in my head, I list down how to get there. It helps me keep track of my thoughts & own progress.
• #90: Annie – Recording and keeping track of her daily taskKeeping a record and instructions of what to do is very important. The notebook simple helps me to get organised and be efficient at the same time.
• #91: I am fond of jotting down ideas on my notebooks. It records down the ideas which crossed my mind so that I won’t forget.I could sketch, draw freehand, paste pictures and include samples of past examples.It also records further development of the new idea which includes more research & readingand its conceptualization that -> resulted into an end result e.g. photos and reports as evidence
• #92: I’m afraid that we have something to confess.A: Other then notebooks, we also use blogs as our idea journal. The good thing it being online is that we can share our finds to the team easily.
