Syllabus New Horizons Jazz Ensemble NEW HORIZONS JAZZ ENSEMBLE | SyllabusDEPAUL UNIVERSITY SCHOOL OF MUSIC | COMMUNITY MUSIC DIVISION Course Title: New Horizons Jazz Ensemble Sundays 6:15pm-7:15pm Instructor: Danny Lebowitz danny@finaltouch.com 651-353-9122 Course Description: This is a performance-oriented course dealing with all aspects of group jazz performance. This course will explore different styles and periods of jazz as well as improvisational skills. Participants will have performance opportunities during the course of the quarter. Music will be provided. By the end of the quarter, successful participants will: 1. Be part of a cohesive group with the aim of developing musicianship. 2. Improve jazz performance skills in the following areas: Improvisation Rhythmic feel/time Harmony/Melody Interpretation of Style Blend/Balance Sight Reading Prerequisites: Basic proficiency on a musical instrument in the key of C, Bb, Eb Ability to read music notation Required Materials: An instrument in playing condition A tuner/metronome Attendance and Participation Policy: Attendance is vital to individual and band success. Please be at every rehearsal. If you need to miss rehearsal, please give the director notice at least 3 hours in advance. Music and parts will be chosen at the discretion of the instructor. The ensemble will meet on scheduled Sundays 1/11/2015 to 3/22/2015 from 6:15pm-7:15pm. Performances: Sunday March _______ TBD
