COMMUNICATION
TECHNOLOGY IN 2026
Jeremy Smith
• Technology in the year 2026 should not be much different from the communication
devices of today. The difference in technology should just be more advanced to
benefit the wants of the people.
ROGER’S DIFFUSION OF
INNOVATIONS
• Roger’s theory explains how and why new communication technology spreads
through the population and social system.
• Elements that influence the spread of new ideas
- The Idea
- Communication Channels
- Time
- Social System
CELLPHONES
• In ten years cellphones will not be much different, however, some changers are
going to be made. They are going to be lighter, flatter, a better touch screen. The
reason these changes happen is because under Roger’s theory these are the
changes that needed to be made is so that the majority of the population continue
to choose the cellphone as there communication device.
MOORE’S INNOVATION ADOPTION
RATE
• Moore’s theory explain how people tend to adopt to new technology.
• Five Established Adopter Categories
• Innovators- first to try innovation
• Early Adopters- leaders who embrace change
• Early Majority- adopt new ideas before the majority BELL CURVE
• Late Majority- adopt after majority
• Laggards- don’t like change like the old
WATCHES
• In the year 2026 it should not be any big changes with watches. the old style of
watches will still exist and will never change. In order for the new style of watches
such as the iwatch to move from the early adaption stage to the majority adaption
on the bell curve (Moore’s theory) it will need to become its own communication
device.
HEADPHONES
• In 2016 we use headphone as a tool that’s only used when connected to another
communication device. In 2026 I see headphone as being its own communication
device. It will no longer need any other device to be used. With Moore’s theory I
think that it would be a easy change over from old to new.
USES AND GRATIFICATION THEORY
• Uses and Gratification theory is how and why people use the media.
• Some ways to examine this would be
- Cognitive needs- knowledge, finding information
- Affective needs- emotions, makes people happy
- Personal Integrative needs- self-esteem need, become known
- Social integrative needs- communication tool
- Tension free needs- relaxation
CARS
• In the year 2026 cars become more computerized and have more communications
technology such as: own wifi, voice control table in dash, hands free calling, sira. The
Uses and Gratification theory would apply because of the Affective needs meaning
of people desire theses upgrades.
LAPTOPS
In the year 2026 laptops will become easier to transport, touch screens, and
holographic keyboard. Today consumers use computers when working on big
projects. In 2026 laptops should replace all computers. With the Uses and Gratification
theory the reason laptops will still be around is because the want for them will
guarantee they exist.
CONCLUSION
The wants and need of people will encourage how technology continues to develop.
Most of the changes that apply above show the power people have in theses
developments.
