COMMUNICATION
TECHNOLOGY
What will the communication technology landscape look like in 2024 A.D.?
Manuela Velasquez
Technology Never Sleeps
In the last decade, there have been significant
advancements in communication technology
which has shaped and defined modern society.
The internet, mobile devices, and social media
remodeled how and what people communicate
to society as a whole. It is difficult to imagine
how much more advanced technology can get
in the next ten years, but every year I see
another innovation of communication
technology take over the world.
Uses & Gratifications Theory

This theory assumes that users seek out the
mass media to satisfy their individual needs.

People greatly use media to fulfill their personal
needs, making the uses and gratifications
theory important to technology innovation.
M. Velasquez, Comm Tech Final Project
Social Media

In 2024, social media will continue to
be a main form of communication.

Every organization, business, and
person will have their own website
where they can post status updates,
various forms of media, information,
and events.

There will be current events, local
news, and entertainment made
available on the home screen to go
along with the updates of friends and
family.

File sharing/uploading, instant
messaging, and video calling will be
made possible through an all-in-one
social media site.
Moore's Innovation Adoption Rate

This theory explains that innovations go through a gradual change of being accepted.

It takes time for the majority of the population to catch on to and adapt to the change
in technology.
Smartphones & Mobile Devices

In the next decade, I see cellular devices being used
more and more like computers.

They will be able to project a virtual keyboard and
have increased memory storage.

A permanent GPS locator will allow for missing
and/or stolen devices to be found.

With the growing popularity of tablets, computers will
become an inconvenience.

Tablets are capable of doing all that a computer can
on a smaller, versatile, and more interactive screen.
In Ten Years...
EDUCATION
- Classes will be completely
virtual.
- Video recordings of lectures
and lessons can eliminate in
class meetings.
- Live video conferencing
between students/parents
and teachers more
convenient.
- Schools will use tablets to
teach, eliminating the need
for texts and use of paper
completely
In Ten Years...
BUSINESS
-Video conferencing will
replace physical meetings.
- Office jobs can be done
from home or anywhere in
the world.
- Elimination of paper trail as
tablets and smartphones
will be used to
electronically communicate
and complete tasks.
Television & Film in 2024

Eventually, television sets will be a thing of the past. With inventions
such as Google glass, the personal television will be made possible.

People can watch their favorite shows, movies, and any video through
a pair of personal and portable glasses.

This innovation would lead to less arguments over the remote.
Television & Film in 2024

For a more social
experience, all cinemas
will adapt to four-
dimensional screenings.

Special glasses will allow
for simulated video in
which the viewer sees
themselves as part of the
movie/TV show.
Critical Mass Theory

The critical mass theory was created by theorist
Thomas Shelling and sociologist Mark Granovetter.

This theory suggests that people are more likely to
take a risk after watching someone else
experience it.

This is especially important to communication
because in order for future communication
technologies to be successful, they must be
adopted by society.

The audience is ultimately in control of what fad or
trend takes off.
