John Adams was the second president of the United States, serving from 1797 to 1801. He also served as the first vice president under George Washington from 1789 to 1797. Prior to his political career, Adams was a lawyer and historian from Massachusetts, graduating from Harvard University in 1755. He represented Massachusetts in the First and Second Continental Congresses and later served as ambassador to both Great Britain and the Netherlands. Adams died on July 4, 1826 in Quincy, Massachusetts at the age of 90.
