The world we inhabit is abundant beyond our wildest imagination. There are trees, dreams, sunrises; there are thunderstorms, shadows, rivers; there are wars, flea bites, love affairs; there are the lives of people, Gods, entire galaxies. The simplest human action varies from one person and occasion to the next… Only a tiny fragment of this abundance affects our minds. This is a blessing, not a drawback. A superconscious organism would not be superwise, it would be paralyzed.
You’ve gotta feel it in your blood and in your guts ! If you wanna rock, you gotta break the rules. You gotta get mad at the man! And right now, I’m the man. That’s right, I’m the man, and who’s got the guts to tell me off? Huh? Who’s gonna tell me off?

Editor's Notes

  • #4: 1.1.0 We live in a time of unprecedented abundance and diversity in access to culture My idea was that this slide would begin with just radio, TV and magazine - this is the "20 years ago" scenario… … then add each of the logos to show the multiplication and fragmentation of 'channels' - the "now" scenario
  • #5: 1.1.0 We live in a time of unprecedented abundance and diversity in access to culture 1.1.2 Our interests lead us easily into areas that previously were not economic to support or access It would be great if the graph could be improved by better software/better user
  • #7: 1.2.0 Technology can help us filter the choices available, but the technological fix is no panacea
  • #8: 1.2.0 Technology can help us filter the choices available, but the technological fix is no panacea 1.2.1 The ‘Big Brother’ version of the future has all our choices tracked in order to make personalised suggestions
  • #9: 1.2.0 Technology can help us filter the choices available, but the technological fix is no panacea 1.2.2 However, there can be no perfect recommendation system My attempts to add the "Play me music I will like" text are hampered by a very cheap drawing package. If this could be improved upone, I'd be very grateful
  • #10: 1.2.0 Technology can help us filter the choices available, but the technological fix is no panacea 1.2.3 The relationship we have with our favourite music/films/books depends a lot on context
  • #11: 1.3.0 Our hunting for culture is more unruly and in some ways follows the laws of the jungle
  • #19: 1.3.0 Our hunting for culture is more unruly and in some ways follows the laws of the jungle 1.3.2 Some people fear that leads us to an anarchic Tower of Babel future where we lose sight of what’s good, true and beautiful
  • #20: 1.3.0 Our hunting for culture is more unruly and in some ways follows the laws of the jungle 1.3.3 The net offers us an augmented and enhanced anarchy that actually liberates us – and could also be more efficient
  • #21: 2.0.0 But even anarchic behaviour follows rules of some kind, and has leaders and followers
  • #25: 3.3.0 The recipe for a diverse and vibrant culture is Net, Blogs and Rock’n’Roll Again I'm sure my shoddy graphics could be improved upon
  • #26: 3.3.0 The recipe for a diverse and vibrant culture is Net, Blogs and Rock’n’Roll 3.3.1 The Net is the platform that supports all the TLC strands of discovery and the mechanics to enhance anarchy I am not intending to explain this diagram, just to use it to demonstrate/refer to the complexity
  • #27: 3.3.0 The recipe for a diverse and vibrant culture is Net, Blogs and Rock’n’Roll 3.3.2 Blogs give online exchanges their flavour, their personality and their diversity
