The international travel and tourism industry has a complex structure involving many organizations. It includes three main types of tourism:
1) Domestic tourism involves travel within one's own country, such as holidays or visiting friends/relatives. In the UK in 2000, there were 174.5 million domestic trips.
2) Inbound/incoming tourism refers to international visitors entering a country, such as Japanese tourists visiting Europe. In 2000, 25.2 million overseas visitors came to the UK.
3) Outbound tourism occurs when people travel internationally from their home country, for example families from Pakistan visiting England.
