Joshua is instructed to lead the Israelites into the Promised Land as Moses' successor. God promises to be with Joshua and tells him to be strong and courageous. Joshua commands the people to prepare food for their journey across the Jordan River in three days. The tribes of Reuben, Gad and half of Manasseh pledge to help the other tribes conquer their lands before returning home. The people commit to following Joshua as they had followed Moses, as long as God remains with their leader.
